EELS SNARE TV RATINGS TITLE

The Parramatta Eels have won the title as the season’s most watched NRL club on Fox Sports and Kayo.

The Eels had an average audience of 378,000 — more viewers than any of their NRL or AFL rivals thanks to their fanatical blue and gold army in Sydney’s west — up 10 per cent on last year. OzTAM ratings also reveal Parramatta as the most watched football team in any code on pay TV and free-to-air TV.

“Having an average of 378,000 viewers on Fox and Kayo each week is a phenomenal result and a testament to our members and fans who support our club with pride,” Eels chief executive Jim Sarantinos said. “It’s also a terrific outcome for our sponsors. We are by no means done and plan to build in 2021.”

Melbourne Storm came in second on 360,000, with Sunday’s opponents Penrith eighth with 330,000. The Gold Coast Titans and the New Zealand Warriors finished equal-last with an average of 271,000 viewers.

The round-six Roosters v Eels game was the most watched pay TV game, with an average audience of 507,000. The second-highest was Sonny Bill Williams’ comeback for the Roosters against the Raiders on a Saturday night in round 17.

Honestly, what a shit article. It's pretty obvious that most teams that are winning or playing well will get better ratings. I bet if you go back a few years when Parra were going shithouse their ratings wouldn't be crash hot.

Hang on...the Eels had to have played someone in their TV appearances so unless they are working on the home game audiences those stats really don't mean much. Plus people who watched the game may not necessarily have been Eels fans either..... just TV ratings and they may have had a lot of favourable time slots with nothing else on...

Also helps when you get primetime games every week.
Exactly this, and in fact this would be a massive factor in those figures. So big that really this data should be divided based on primetime/free to air games and other games. Would like to see a count on how many Thursday night, Friday night, and Sunday afternoon games each team had placed next to those numbers. The correlation would be pretty high.

Last year we're on the decline hopefully. Let's go board, Barrett, our current roster and the already recruited and about to be recruited recruits for next year.

Simple statistic that many variables would have played a part in. As others have mentioned, time slot of their games would play a big part. If they're competing with other poorly rating shows it's logical that sports fans would flock to the only sport played early in the Covid shutdowns. Their success this year no doubt helps to some extent with getting their own supporters watching. But highly doubtful that it wasn't massively supplemented by league and sports fans in general. At the end of the day it doesn't benefit them in any significant way to be at the top of this list. Might entice a little more interest from potential sponsors. But that's about the only small benefit.

Nasheed here,
These stats do nothing to quell the suspicion that the Bullsogs are becoming a niche team for Lebanese only.
