Has this ever happened to anyone?
Twice in my life, once when in 2001 and then later in 2009.
In 2001 I was 17, I was hanging out with a friend who was at the servo filling up his car when out of nowhere this van pulls up.
Two men get out and run out to my friend saying "this is a once in a lifetime deal, the factory fucked up and the customers wouldnt sign for it" they then open the side of the van to show us these generic car speakers that had German or Austrian writing on it.
They explained some bullshit about how the factory messed up with paper work and customers they were delivering the speakers to and could sell them at whatever price because of the screw up.
I was just a kid but I knew these guys were trying to rip my friend.
My friend seemed to show some interest at first but I think he was just trying to scam them for cheaper? As he too was (and probably still is?) a thief.
The next occurrence happened when I was with another friend, I was driving his car because he lost his license for spilling his drink while driving.
I was at a famous western Sydney shopping centre, in the parking lot, I reverse park into a good spot,close to the doors.
I didn't even get to turn off the ignition and out of nowhere we have two men stepping on our toes.
One of Middle eastern appearance and the other of Aussie Anglo/indigenous appearance.
So naturally I was scared, I got out of the car and shaped up thinking they were going to rob us?
And then they explained they didn't want trouble they just had "a once in a lifetime deal" same story as 2001 guys.
I just outright said "no guys, fuck off, this has happened to me 8 years ago where guys pull up in a van and say they got something to sell out of the back of it".
Honestly I thought buying stolen generic shit out of the back of vans was so 1988?
Anyway before they could go on and open the van, I said "what shit have you got to sell? Is it T.Vs? Speakers?"
I was right with my second guess they were speakers and this friend of mine I was with is more gullible then my other friend who had a similar encounter years earlier.
He was interested and said he would go to the atm and give them the $350 for this generic sound system with a manual that had no English instructions on it.
I tried to break my friend away from these crooks but the Leb could sense my wisdom and intervened and got between us so I couldn't talk my friend out of it.
I was so pissed, but it wasn't my money lol.
