It's long overdue that Tassie gets an AFL team.

The NRL wouldn't work there. It's an AFL town. The NRL is better off trying to get a Perth team which actually has an appetite and the infrastructure for league there.

Absolutely. If the nrlol was set for expansion by adding 1 new team, it was a moronic move to do it in an nrl stronghold. It gets no new fans or players. Or more importantly games per week, by which the nrlol could increase revenue by broadcast rights ,which starting in Perth would. Pre super league, the western reds were successful. There's no reason to think it wouldn't be again. There are plenty of expat Kiwis, New South Welshman QLDers in the mining sector in WA to make it viable I reckon. It has to be the 18th team

TBH, i don't really see today's announcements getting them any closer to a team.

The AFL for some reason want a $750m stadium built in Hobart. Funny that they have been perfectly happy for teams to use the current stadiums in Hobart and Launceston for years. They would be better off upgrading both grounds for a fraction of the cost and having a team that encompasses both north and south Tasmania (who have, at times, a bitter rivalry).

No money and not enough big business in Tassie to support an AFL or NRL Club.

There have been at least 3 different NBL franchises and an A-League franchise down there that require less than half the capitol to survive and they have all gone broke.

In a perfect world Tassie would be included but in the real world there just isn't enough cash generated down there to support major sports teams.
