NRL news: Newcastle Knights, James McManus concussion lawsuit dismissed (foxsports.com.au)

Former Knights star James McManus has had a landmark court case over repeated concussions involving his former club dismissed just days before it was set to be heard.

McManus, who played 166 games for the club, began proceedings against Newcastle in 2017 and had been suing for $1 million.

“The NRL was confident in its defence of the claim under the Civil Liability Act and we are pleased that the matter could be resolved without further cost and expense for all parties.”

This successful defence sets a precedent.

No lawsuit for concussions will have a chance unless there was some form of gross negligence that can be proven. I've been saying that all along and this judgement proves that.

Every player knows the risks when they play and they sign waivers acknowledging that risk. I hope no one mentions players suing for concussions again after this ruling.

probably need to know on what basis it was dismissed, especially prior to the matter being heard
