A NRL woman’s State of Origin player has been arrested after allegedly assaulting security guards inside a Sydney pub. Nita Maynard, who has played for NSW and also represents North Sydney and Sydney Roosters, had to be restrained after an ugly incident in front of shocked patrons at Northies, Cronulla, at 9pm on Friday. It is alleged Maynard was asked to leave the premises by security before punching a bouncer in the right eye. It will also be alleged she assaulted a second security guard. Fellow security guards attempted to subdue a highly agitated Maynard before up to six police arrived and arrested her. The 28-year-old was charged with two counts of common assault and excluded person fail to leave premises when required. North Sydney wellbeing and education manager Greg Florimo attempted to obtain details about the incident by speaking with Maynard and the NRL on Saturday. A pub patron contacted The Sunday Telegraph, saying: “She was asked to leave and was being escorted out by security.” The patron said a security guard “grabbed his eye” after the incident “and bouncers came running and they wrestled her to the ground. “The pub was packed. People were filming the whole thing. There were a lot of tourists there. The bouncers held her for about ten to 15 minutes until about six coppers turned up. New Zealand-born Maynard started in the Roosters side which lost the NRLW grand final to Brisbane last year. She represented the Maori All Stars earlier this year against the Indigenous All Stars. Another onlooker claimed Maynard and her friends – some Norths players – had been at the pub drinking for several hours before the incident erupted. They had earlier been spotted at a Mexican restaurant in The Shire. Norths had a bye this weekend. The NRL integrity unit is investigating the incident. A police statement read: “About 9pm yesterday (Friday 2 April 2021), officers attached to Sutherland Shire Police Area Command were called to a licensed premise on Elouera Road, Cronulla, following reports of an alleged assault. “Police were told a 28-year-old woman became aggressive when she was directed to leave the venue by security. During the incident, it’s alleged the woman assaulted two security guards. She was eventually restrained until police arrived a short time later. “The woman was arrested and taken to Sutherland Police Station, where she was charged with two counts of common assault and excluded person fail to leave premises when required.” Maynard was granted conditional bail to appear at Sutherland Local Court on Thursday, May 13. She is certain to be suspended and possibly fined by the NRL if found guilty. “We won’t jump to conclusions and we will wait to hear all the facts before we consider any sanctions,” Florimo said. “Her wellbeing is of the utmost importance.”

I've never been to Northies. Is it really a shithole?

She’s not the first footy player to get in trouble at Northies and won’t be the last. The security there must not be good at de-escalating situations
