Another Bulldog we shouldn't forget is Greg Buckley, an under 21s player in 1988.

As Canterbury celebrated their grand final win, it was easy to forget the moment at Belmore in August when the world seemed to stand still for the Buckley family. Greg Buckley, a promising under-21 fullback was knocked unconscious in a tackle in a match against St George. For a time, it seemed that he might not live. In a coma for 40 days, and with his family maintaining a vigil by his hospital bed, Buckley, remarkably, awoke on grand final day, sat up in bed and watched the match with his family.

I wish I knew what became of him & what his life is like now, nearly 30 years later.
I found an update on Greg Buckley:

Wow Greg Buckley..yes that was another of our players who suffered a terrible incident although at least he was not killed.

I also remember a player called Greg Sankey ( he had a shock of red hair; a ranga) who had to retire due to a neck injury. Think it happened at BSG too.

Played for us from 1977-1982

Greg Sankey joined Canterbury in 1977 as a fullback.

Greg was a regular member of the Under 23 team and played in the play offs.

In 1978 he missed most of the season before returning toward the end of the season.

In 1979, Greg was a regular member of the Under 23 team before playing centre in the reserve grade Grand Final against Parramatta.

In 1980, Greg became a regular member of the reserve grade team and played in the Premiership winning team against Parramatta as centre.

In 1981 he returned to fullback and received the opportunity to play first grade against Balmain as a replacement.

In 1982, Greg continued in reserve grade and in 1983 played first grade early in the season when Greg Brentnall was injured.

Greg did not complete the 1983 season due to a neck injury and retired from the game.

His last game was round 13 1983 V Cronulla at Endeavour. Perhaps the injury happened in reserves at BSG.

Greg Stanley was a pretty fair player who stepped up to first grade and performed quite well
