Official 2025 NSW CUP Jersey Flegg Ron Massey Scores ,Squads and Team News

I really hope Mazzone continues to improve. Would be great to see his pace in first grade. And I’m a fan of the hair
Mazzone was very good. Defensive reads excellent and his chases down showed he has the attitude as well as the speed. If he doesn't play fg at dogs, some club will sign him.

Even though sua and reinkama started in front of him in the trials I reckon he seems more ready compared to the them as I mentioned in a post all 3 are great prospects and looking forward to seeing how they progress.

That chase on two real flyers was as good an effort as we will see all season.

I'm rooting for the kid as he has been through hell.

On the other side of the scale the fullback Cochrane during the same chase was pedestrian ...... Great hands but couldn't run out of sight on a dark night.

Not a lot of genuine speed throughout the whole club. Quite similar to Penrith in that regard.

King, Hughes, Tiponoua, Hayes, Preston, Curran, Kikau, Underhill, Mann, Amone, and a few more are all first grade players.
They are all in advance of Todd. Todd will never see FG for a long time.

Barring injury Todd will play first grade before round 10-12.

That was my take on Cochrane based on small sample size has some ability with ball in hand but lacks pace. Someone compared him to Ben Barba recently can’t see the similarity. Barba was lightning quick.
Tracy tries hard but gets found out in attack and defence due to lack of pace - got badly stood up by a hooker on the weekend. Not sure Cochrane would be an upgrade.

Well said - apart from Callaghan in sgball the club lacks fb with genuine spark - dont know if any of the wingers could be turned into a fb - i thought Mazzone was the best of all the clubs wingers on the weekend - his decision making in defence and speed and attitude were outstanding - may be he could be turned into a fb - has the blistering speed so one box is ticked. Rinakama had some good carries BUT the way he holds the ball one handed will be targeted.

Light weight fullbacks with zero pace are quite likely to struggle.

I had suspected he was slow but that was confirmed 100% and then some on the weekend.

Looking at his hands i wouldn't be surprised if he has played 5/8 in the past ..... would get slaughtered defensively though as you say.

I saw the Ben Barber comment ..... privately just shook my head

I glad you pointed this out about Rinakama ...... right hand carry exclusively by the looks of things, not good for a left winger.

I would include centers in that as well ..... Luke Smith playing there tells you everything you need to know. Hamish Wilson in Flegg is awful and along with his wing partner Afualo (VERY average as well) were terrible against Saints.

What's your opinion of Sloan this season mate? ..... anyone else with an opinion please join in.

Last season i thought he was one of those super talented, long striding indigenous kids who just glided around with ease.

This season repeating Matts he is doing nothing and appears to be another who looks slow ..... extremely disappointing. Hoping it is because of the ordinary team performance.

Kid i would love to see given a shot at fullback moving forward is Chinedu Udeh .... He has a right foot step to rival Ponga. Electric in broken play and is shackled playing 5/8. His favorite position as well.

Ive said previously, i think we need to go and recruit a fullback.. NOT Kennedy..
Maybe one of the following:
- Chevy Stewart
- Voltano from Knights
- Taine Tuipiki
- AJ Brimson
- Sua Faalogo (Paps looks on fire again and Storm wont let him go)

or left field, maybe try and pry Tolu Koala from Manly to play fullback with a big offer...

IMO In fg i think Mahoney n Tracey will be under pressure if the club can find a 1 and 9 soon - both have issues that others clubs target - neither are going to get quicker and have probably reached their ceiling. IMO in Flegg H Wilson is just slow and gets beaten with speed, Afualo does teh yardage carries well but lacks genuine speed - In HM Braith Sloan - i think it is as much to do with team performance, doesnt get opportunities apart from yardage runs - CJ Udeh has been consistently good despite having to play off the back foot. The lack of pace in the club makes Mazzone's developement more important.

It’s funny reading comments from the NSW cup game. So many positives but as I watched I didn’t think anyone stood out really. The only player I thought had any chance of promotion was Hopoi, and he already has NRL experience obviously.

Cochrane and Gabrael were average. Maybe it shows how good Ramsay is, but it was his first game in over 900 days and he made most other backs look shit, including Cochrane when he jumped over him to score. Jethro was alright.

Of the forwards I wasn’t excited. Even Todd didn’t impress much. Tia was good when he came on. Him and Hopoi actually made a case for promotion. The rest were meh.

Agree

I like the look of the young hooker Paterson in Ball and Patrick Young has really impressed. I think he might be pretty good.

Fullback is looking likely to come from outside the club in my opinion. Paps was back to his blistering best for Melbourne yesterday. Probably became 200K more expensive though ...... I wish lol.

I am wondering if Kiks will be resigned when the time comes as well ?

IMO Mazzone was very good.

In defence yes. Wasn’t impressive with the ball but think it was his senior debut? Same for a few others too? Some of them (like Cochrane) looked better in the trial.
