Lots of people have been talking about who we missed out on. Who we should have signed instead..

I don't see how anyone can objectively look at this list and say that aside of a handful of players that it's not slim pickings across the league..

The cap increasing so much and the 17th team have killed the market. Some teams have added no one at all, others only squad players and backups. Aside from the Roosters and Dolphins most teams did nothing in the market. Souths signed Wighton and the Warriors signed RTS but we signed Crichton..

Yeah I noticed that too. Most teams haven’t changed much. Some of them probably don’t need to, but it’s unusual that there has only been player movements at a few clubs. It’s not just the market but the fact a lot of deals were done midseason.

Most key players re-signed months before any other club could negotiate with them because the cap went up so much.. So teams with cap space lost their advantage because their current clubs could come up with similar offers. Whereas before the cap spiked in one year, more of those players would have changed clubs.

I don't think we have signed poorly - rather the opposite.

We need these experienced players for the sake of depth and nurturing our younger grades properly.

The problem is, that halves win teams' games in the modern era. Currently, we're lacking talent in the halves. I'll give Burto another season there but if he doesn't aim up this season I hope we ditch that experiemnt.

Absolutely buzzing about the Curran signing, though. Dude is a workhorse.

Rorters the only club who come anywhere near us for impact on changing results on the field really from 2023 squad.

only a few better we could of signed from who moved clubs. A few players also who stayed at their clubs. We're cooked for halves and middles so until that's addressed there will be criticism with recruitment (there was very little available tho). Next year will be the same story again so hopefully we nail the right players for 2025 (frustrating to say considering how long we've been down the bottom). On the signings we've made for 2024 outside Crichton, Xerri and Curran the rest of the list is a little uninspiring.

It's a damned if they do, damned if they didn't situation. If we'd done like many other clubs we'd have offered extensions to some very average players in our roster. Instead we've opted for large scale roster alteration.

If nothing else I saw last year that we had issues with commitment once we were more than a try behind. If we just wind up with 17 players on field that aren't going to throw in the towel when they realise they're in a fight, it's going to be a less frustrating team to watch. Sure we're still weak in the engine room. But the recruitment team won't leave any stone in turned in fixing it.

Key also is Burton. I hope those half-hearted efforts and (seemingly?) disinterested attitude is addressed by CC (and Gus). We all know he can do much better and should be.

I think it's a whole of squad attitude that needs to be turned around. Singling out individual players is unavoidable, but pessimism is largely unavoidable when it seeps through the bulk of the playing group. Ideally we'll have a handful of players next year who can bolster the belief that we can win even if we're a few tries behind.

I can tolerate losing. But it's harder to tolerate if we get 12 points behind and stop fighting. I hope a few of our underrated recruits can bring that never say die spirit.

Def whole of squad thing but if even us supporters drop our heads when you see shirt grabbing and turnstiles just watching opposition run/walk past your team mate inside you, then it's infectious in a bad way.

Hopefully in the past now.

Way I see it we brought in some geniune first graders, individuals with defensive capabilities at the highest level. Depth really is key in the modern game we were totally exposed this year bringing in reserves which dismantled any chance the side had of being competitive. A marquee prop would’ve added some incentive this year probably will be the reason we come short. Hoping Burton puts a finger out of his ass he can play a key role this year if he gets his head in the game.

Sorry, the list on NRL.com doesn’t have Blake Wilson in the top 30 or development. Technically he is on a supplementary contract but as soon as RFM/Topine walk he’ll fill a spot you’d think.

Gus on twitter said Wilson is in the top 30.
