So how does this 800k come in play?
Or is it more than 800k for 6 players?

Hope all is well and recuperation going nicely.

Thank you for this information. If we have 24 already contracted that means they will be the ones we go with next year and it also means that we only need another 6 to keep the NRL happy in relation to a 30 man squad. Of course in addition to this we can have 3-6 development players independent of this cap figure and they only need a salary of 60k. They can be called upon if we suffer enough injuries to prevent us fielding a full side plus the four reserves.

I probably jumped the gun a bit with the thought of needing 14, but of course they are the guys off contract with the absolute possibility that they may not have been a consideration of being re-signed. Of the fourteen will be interesting to see who they keep. As you say your list does not even include Cogger and Smith.

Our club website makes it confusing as we have players like Fine Lichaa etc. included in both sets of profiles.

Players not listed in Telstra squad are Garlick,Miller,Nelson,Luani,Burr, Anderson, Bergamin,Carr,Manu,Okunbor ( in bold are the guys off contract).

These are the guys off contract: total of 13 with the Morris boys, Eastwood touted as certainties to leave.

Lachlan Burr, Tom Carr, Mason Cerruto, Josh Cleeland, Greg Eastwood, Asipeli Fine, Matt Frawley, Lachlan Lewis, , Rhyse Martin, Brett Morris, Josh Morris, Clay Priest, Zac Woolford
Thanks for the well wishes!

I'm not sure if Anderson, Okunbor or Wakeham are included in top 30 for next year but if they are on multi year deals I'd say they would be. Even if they are not we still have 21.

I did include Cogger as he has been officially announced by the club but left Chris Smith out because he hasn't.

In a perfect world it would be great to re-sign Martin, Carr, Lewis and maybe Woolford the rest I wouldn't be too bothered about.

Least 2020 is definitely the last year of backened deals apart from Woods.

Thanks mate! appreciate the good wishes.

Still a lot of questions to be answered though. How much of the cap are the 24 listed taking up. There's probably 6 players listed who can play 1-5. If we only have a limited amount of money left we're going to end up with some very ordinary players as back ups. And there are some very ordinary players on that list, probably not many that would be in demand at any other team, so the team we field isn't going to be all that flash.

Are Lachlan Lewis and Rhyse Martin off contract? Would have been nice to keep both of them...

Considering who is off contract my 5 players would be picked from below (should be all close to minimum wage):

Rhyse Martin (Second Row) , Lachlan Lewis (Halfback/Centre), Zac Woolford (Hooker), Tom Opacic (Centre), Kyle Laybutt (Halfback).

Obviously there might be some guys not in full time squads and such that I have not considered but basically looking at the list we have signed we need 1 second rower, 2 winger/centre and 2 playmakers...NO PROPS!!

Martin would be on more than min wage next contract playing to well in first grade.

So that's that, then. Thanks Spoonman. For me, the future is bright. Because it gives a host of junior/emerging talent their time in the sun, and all those in SG/NSWCUP we've long lauded their chance in a squad Pay can nurture and call his own. In a season with few positives so far, it's fair to say we need to hang on to the likes of Lewis/Wakeham/Smith/Toomaga because that's where our immediate future lies. Pay can burnish the Hasler era once and for all and build a squad that burns like hell to recreate the Dogs Of War. Bleed for the jersey. We'll cop a few, for sure, but it's been years since the Dogs had to rebuild. I still recall Lewis fronting the cameras after that pre-season trial v Panthers. I thought, the future's in pretty good hands. We've suffered this year and it'd be a sad day if this current administration failed us.

Hopefully this clears up the confusion with journos like Kent saying we need 14 players which is impossible as we already have 24 on contract for next year. This isn't including Chris Smith who has reportedly signed from Wyong.

Signings will slowly fall into place when and if other players move on. ie, Mybye, Tolman, Lichaa etc. Yes, Hill did say they won't have to move anyone on but I have no doubt he has allowed players to negotiate elsewhere should they wish to.

I think Morgan Harper will step into the top 30 next year and the year after we have James Roumonos from the Sharks huge raps and so to Matt Doorey from Parramatta

Never would have got Saddler the club must rate him he’s only played a handful of Flegg games.
