Dragon’s community player of the month for June is “King of the Kids” Jeremy Smith. A classy player and quiet achiever it was a member of the public who brought the club’s attention to Jeremy’s community initiatives.

A new addition to the Dragons in 2009, Jeremy has settled in to the area and the club exceptionally becoming quite a popular figure. A Towradgi resident Jeremy has taken the title of “King of the Kids” in which he organizes afternoon games of park footy with kids from the local neighbourhood.

It has become a regular occasion of an afternoon and mothers have been talking as they gather in the park while Jeremy plays with the kids. One such mother who called the club singing Jeremy’s praise said “It is so refreshing to see an NRL player taking the time to organize and play some footy with all of the local kids. My son is so overwhelmed it is all he and his friends talk about… It is such a wonderful gesture from a high profile player like Jeremy”.

Along with his afternoon games with the neighbourhood kids, Jeremy has also risen above and beyond the call of duty this month with club commitments. So far he has participated in a team signing session at Crown St Mall, conducted a Drink Y-ise session with local U16 Junior League players on a Tuesday evening from 6pm-8pm, hosted kids from the Dragons PCYC “Footy Fever” program at a Dragons home game, as well as taking part in two MAA – Arrive Alive sessions at Warilla High School.

Jeremy is a welcome addition to the Dragons in 2009, most people are already aware of his playing ability but it is his caring nature and community-minded actions which set him apart from other players. Jeremy’s efforts see him rewarded with a dinner for two, thanks to the Lagoon Restaurant. Congratulations Jeremy!

Stay tuned as the Dragons’ players do battle to see who will claim the title of July’s Dragons Community Player of the Month
