The Bulldogs have reportedly shopped big money enforcer Tevita Pangai Jr to NRL rivals, who have shown little interest in the forward who was dropped to NSW Cup this week.

The Daily Telegraph’s Michael Carayannis revealed on SEN Radio that the Bulldogs have struggled to offload Pangai Jr, who is on a monster pay packet of $925,0000 annually making him the club’s highest paid player.

“It has been no secret that the Dogs have offered him up to rival clubs over the last few months,” Carayannis said on SEN 1170 Breakfast.

“His salary drops next season because he’s on that crazy money still with the backend of that last deal with Brisbane.

“He’ll get to around that $750,000 mark which is still a lot of money for (a player) who can’t play that consistent football for 80 minutes.

“For one of the highest paid players in the game, you need to produce.

“I just don’t see who is going to come knocking for that price tag.

“He’s bounced around a few clubs now and no one can seem to get the best out of him.”

Greg Alexander said that Pangai Jr was at a crossroads in his career after several seasons of underwhelming performances.

“Tevita has some shortcomings and he’s got some problems,” Alexander said on SEN Radio.

“What do they do with him?

“If they (the Bulldogs) wanted to offload him, it would cost them a fortune.”

Bulldogs boss Phil Gould has been forced to respond to angry fans after big money forward Tevita Pangai Jr was sensationally dropped to NSW Cup for Round 24.

The Daily Telegraph reported Pangai Jr, who is on $925,000 a season at the Bulldogs was dropped due to poor form in wake of the club’s 42-6 hammering by arch rivals the Eels.

Pangai Jr had only just returned to the Bulldogs side after taking a break due to personal reasons, but will now turn out for the Bulldogs’ reserve grade side against the Newtown Jets at Henson Park on Saturday ahead of the club’s clash with the Sharks that night.

The 26-year-old has had a mixed first season at Belmore scoring one try in 18 games since moving from the Broncos via a short stint with the Panthers last season.

Pangai Jr is the Bulldogs’ highest earning player in 2022, but was dropped after running for 60 metres in just 30 minutes in their clash with Parramatta.

Pangai Jr couldn’t even grab a bench spot, with Joe Stimson, Harrison Edwards and Chris Patolo preferred on the pine.

Gould confirmed the star player’s demotion on Twitter after Bulldogs fans questioned the absence of Pangai Jr on social media.

“Tevita has been named to play NSW Cup at Henson Park this weekend,” Gould replied after a fan asked why Pangai Jr was not in the 21 man squad named on Tuesday.

To be fair, it was seen by most as a great signing at the time because we needed more mongrel in our pack. Was always a risk though because the guy is a loose cannon. I would still keep him around for next season purely to see whether Ciraldo can get consistency out of him + we're already light on with Vaughan leaving.

What are people's opinions on what his best position is?

I think he is an out and out Prop with the ability to fill at 2nd Row if needed.

Need to improve his fitness and to simplify his game plan. I think we persist for one more year under Ciraldo and then make moves.

So we could of retained our best forward in Vaughan but let him go to England ,I’m sorry I don’t think we can challenge in 2023 we are way to light up front and between TPJ and Thompson playing minimal minutes leaves our middles uninspiring.

I think he's an out and out prop too. He should be straight up and down and offload like a mad man. He's still the best in the game at offloading. With the money he's on he needs to be pushing 50+ minutes a game and in big/close games even more.

Because no one wants to come here without money being an incentive. Burton even milking us a couple 100k more to stay and we have no choice but to pay it. Until we nail development our cap is going to be out of shape.

Whoever signed him on that kind of money deserves immediate sacking.

He was hit and miss for the broncos and there is no way this guy is worth more than $500k at his best.

Tigers were throwing big coin at him too, remember the fury here when everyone thought the tigers ended up signing him?

Seems that his wife prefers to live with family in Brisbane. I am sure that plays into his state of mind, but not sure how to deal with it other than letting him go to the Dolphins... But we should not be paying anything if he wants to go back to Brisbane. If he wants to be able to continue earning what he is, he needs to find out how to deliver even with distractions at home. Otherwise, he must accept that his family needs to be a priority and ask for a release. I will be pretty dirty with the club if the Dogs pay some of his Salary for the next few years so he can move back to Brisbane for his family

To be honest he never should have been signed in the first place as we were never going to be the club to get him consistently disciplined and committed

For some reason everytime we sign a player on big $$ he under performs, once Ciraldo takes over I hope he tells the players who are earning top $$ to prove their worth every fucking game, so sick of players joining the doggies and think they don't have to earn their paycheck it's been going on for way too long.
