Kyle Flanagan has been inserted into the Bulldogs halves to form the club’s third pairing of 2022 and the club has been slammed by NRL360’s panel of experts.

The Bulldogs have managed only a singular win, beating the Cowboys to start the season, but coach Trent Barrett has made the call to bring Flanagan into the fold in a tough clash against the competition leaders, the Panthers.

The 23-year-old hasn’t been training with the first grade team this season, but has handed a baptism of fire in Round 5.

“It’s is like getting a hand grenade for your birthday,” The Daily Telegraph’s Paul Kent said.

“Lets be honest, this is a guy who hasn’t played a lot of first grade last year but beyond that has not really been welcomed as a part of the club for some time.

“Has not trained all year with the first grade side and here he is finally getting picked at number seven, and he has been put up against the premiers to play the best team in the competition.

“It is like a poison chalice.”

Braith Anasta echoed Kent’s sentiment.

“I feel sorry for him, he has worked hard and he deserves a shot to play in the halves, he has been hammered pillar to post, his confidence has been battered,” Anasta said.

“They didn’t give him a second, let alone a minute in the trials next to Burton, they get to Round 5 and they play the premiership heavyweights, the best team in the competition right now by a long way.

“And they go here you go buddy, do your best.”

Flanagan’s lack of gametime beside off-season recruit Matt Burton could prove to be an issue for the Bulldogs.

Burton himself will be under pressure, taking on his former club which he won a premiership with in 2021.

The Daily Telegraph’s Paul Crawley has raised the question, where is the duty of care for the young halfback who has lacked first grade minutes for a season and a half.

“The team have taken great pleasure in humiliating Kyle in the past, his own club has humiliated him all off-season, he didn’t get a go, he sat there on the sidelines and everyone knew he just wasn’t in their plans,” Crawley said.

“44-0 last week and they come up against the Panthers, and you have got to call it for what it is, it is a disgrace, where is the duty of care?”

After the Bulldogs clash against the Panthers, they take on grand finalists the Rabbitohs, handing Flanagan two of the toughest games of the calendar year.

Going off last year's Flanagan didn't deserve to be first or second choice half.

However his performances in NSW cup THIS year and lack of good performances by our top 2 halves has given him the opportunity .. nothing poor from our club on Flanagan. His previous performances in first grade were terrible ..

Ahh get fucked. You cry when he is dropped and you cry when he plays.

Should he get picked when we play the tigers you stupid fucks?
Broncos would of been the right round to do it but Averillo should of been halfback up until origin time. If we go back a year, same with Flanagan, he should of been given more time at halfback. Baz has no idea what he's doing. He's just going to have us challenging for the wooden spoon every year. There's no plan.

Is there a player the media go into bat for more than Kyle? He’s had so many chances over his career at several clubs and failed to deliver and he’s got another chance this weekend. Tbaz’s management of the halves has been diabolical in the first 5 games but isn’t he supposed to pick Kyle because we are playing Penrith?

Think that's the 2nd time recently I've read he hadn't trained with the FG team? If that is true then fuk me that's poor as fuk! I agree with the article which is rare.

Where's there duty of care line with Oka and how he was set up and then the club turns around with the bullying BS.

Wtf are you on about mate?! Facts and sense have no place in NRL media! These ***** see an opportunity for a dramatic story and swoop on it. They don't know or care about the fact that Flano lost his spot on form, and earnt it back on form! "Disgrace" and "duty of care." Someone give this **** an uppercut.

LOL duty of care. Poor Kyle. What about the duty of care for the long suffering fans? I dont give a flying fuck who plays halfback....just play some footy the fans can be proud of

At least this proves that Baz has officially lost the plot. so I guess this means BBO will be the 7 in 2 weeks then it's Jackson turn. Yay

No one can complain any more about flanno not being given a chance, it's his time to prove people right or wrong and the media can't speak shit anymore.

All I want is success for the club and if flanno gets it by being the best option than bring it on!

I'm not a fan of his at all, baz screwed him over by not getting him the right help or It's possible that he has a attitude problem and not open to any due to ego.

Saying that, with Baz at the helm we will never see anyone play their full potential wearing blue and white.

Barrett picks averillo to be 2022 number 7 and spends the whole off season training with him in that position. Then two games him he drops him for wakeham. Great instincts Barrett. Then drops wakeham after two games. And puts flanno in. Bit like last year but in reverse maybe. Flanno who he never gave time to in the trials. Great instincts Barrett. Shit he must have told porkies in the job interview.
