Bearing in mind this was before the 2nd half revival and about the 2 conceded tries and Hutch.

I agree with the talk about being 1 or 2 years away from our real half. It really depends on whether or not one of our young halves can dictate play on the ride side. Guys like O'neil, Conti, Tia are going well, but when it comes to an out and out 7 you have to be thinking Woods. Surely given he is top 30 starting next season he is going to be elevated to Flegg once the SG season is over, and may even be given some Cup games later in the season. Depending on how he goes with the steps up, it will be Hutch/Sexton/Taaffe in 7 in 2025 (assuming Sexy gets 1 year extension), with Woods getting a shot somewhere during the season if fit and aiming up in Cup. The plan would be for Woods/Burton in 2026.

Still very young tho but it doesn't look anywhere near a worry we had about throwing in to the lions, but we need a mentor type guy for him. Another reason I think Taafe is the guy for remainder of the season.

Taffe would need to spend time at 7 in NSW Cup this year before being selected there in the NRL. The clubs halves options are crap, I think they will let Sexton go, but I would still play him before Hutchinson now. The club needs to either buy a half back or give control of the NSW Cup side to O'Niell and Tia (currently Flegg I think?) Or even Taffe, for the remainder of the year so Hutchinson doesn't end up a certainty for the 7 next year.

Would he though?
Selecting him at half is an experiment/gamble either way. Might as well be NRL.

Or Sexton, if Ciraldo really meant "he will play a role for us at some stage this year". (maybe he meant Hutch was destined for Origin selection :tonguewink: )

We've seen what Hutchison can do (and can't do).
IMO, his best performance was against Melbourne...in the pre-season Trial - where he controlled field position with his kicking game.
It was against a reserve grade opposition though, so maybe that's his role for us - help Mick Potter grab us a minor trophy.

Again, can't fault his effort, but if this is the best we've got at 7, then everything else we're showing will add up to nought.

"Honourable" losses can only carry us so far. Time for this team to take the next step and become the Top 8 contender it clearly is, but will never reach if Ciarldo persists with Hutchison as starting half.

We need to get a move on before the Top 8 gets too far away from us.

An ugly win beats an honourable loss any day.
