Brandon and Grant will stay at Storm..If Dale is moving north we must take him as he not only is still performing well (SOO callup) he can mentor our young players.
Great leader and we need him to help Thommo. Give him 3 years 2.1mill and an option on a 4th.
Make it happen.

what would be the point of having
Finucane
Jackson
Elliot
Waddell
Stimson

all in the same team?

especially the first 3

we needs edge back rowers who can break the line and a prop....

finucane would be more of the same.

Since we are playing them this week, perhaps a comparison to the Chooks is valid, listed at hooker they have BMarsche (bit of journeyman, 24 years old, having previously played for the Chooks, Penrith and for us in the 2019 NSW Cup, no games last year due to Covid), backing up Lussic (20 year old who played 5 games last year and 4 this year), who is the back up for Verrils (missed most of 2020 with an ACL reconstruction), who was in turn the back up for Friend (now retired).

Puts our signing of JMK somewhat into context.

Brandon and Grant will stay at Storm.
BSmith has stated numerous times that he wants to play hooker, both for Melbourne and the Kiwis. Sure he can play elsewhere in the forwards but he will never command the money that he will get playing hooker. He is only 25 and has at least 5 to 7 years ahead of him, if he is giving up, say, $200k a year by not paying hooker that's $1.4m he will miss out on in his career.

But it is even worse than that, Melbourne will expect and demand that he plays for at least $100k less than what he would get for playing the same position at any other club. That's another $700k he will miss out on if he doesn't move away from Melbourne.

But wait there's more, if this isn't Bellamy's last year in Melbourne then next year surely is, so if BSmith does stay in Melbourne he most certainly won't be coached by Bellamy.

Who in their right mind is going to give up possibly $2.1m to stay in Melbourne and at the same time not be coached by Bellamy.

As I have posted many times, my guess is that Grant will be the one to leave, quite possibly to the new SE Qld team (another guess, Redcliffe Dolphins).

No Smith or Hodgson then. Future's looking bright !!!

Funnily enough I was in the car a few weeks back and Ray Hadley was commentating our game and I kid you not he was giving JMK a massive wrap and said he was a really good young player. :O

If you’re in Melbourne’s shoes, I think they would actually be considering who they prefer to keep moving forward between Grant and Smith. Not because of playing ability, (Grant clearly the better hooker on his day), but availability. I swear Grant is always injured. I wouldn’t be surprised if they prioritise resigning Brandon
I was thinking exactly this the other day as well. Playing extremely well and at this stage far more durable.

There’s no balance what so ever in the team i.e talent in most positions across the park , some players like JMK and co as I like to call them part time shiners is because of this . So when we can get and inject good quality specialist players in other key positions it will bring out the best of the part time shiners to become regular ones week in week out it’s called peer support by professionalism. I’ll bet a case of beer to everyone on here JMK will win daily M hooker in the nearest future once the team gets balanced and settled with more talent around him which is happening recruitment wise as we speak now and into the future with more good signings on the horizon hopefully. Like why would he even bother to go 100 percent every set only for Napa and other dumb shits to drop ball or not pass to create second phases etc I’ve seen enough of the guy playing to know his good enough to be a top five hooker with the right cattle calling the shots . His definitely got the Marshal gene in him , when he does get hooker of the yr in a couple of seasons I expect you to send me a case of beer for the ones that disagree today .

Diabolical decision by the club to resign him. Even if it's only a depth signing. We have too many players that have a losing mentality. We need to get rid of as many of these players as possible. Not resign them ffs.

He'd be on close to minimum wage you would think..heard the dogs offered Meaney minimum wage and so did Melb so he went there to play under that system.

Surely we dont keep all of the above players moving forward..Finucane is head and shoulders a better middle and we should move Elliot to Dragons asap and Stimson and Wadell on wherever we can..
My point is Dale is a leader and premiership player. He is Bulldog bred and Storm polished up.
Need to take the opportunity asap as a club.
BTW your Edge player unfortunately is on his way down from the Drongos on his Harley Davidson.

It is apparently a 1+1 deal, with 2nd year in clubs favour.

Depth signing - hopefully we can secure an actual 9
The club option for the second year is good news. Use him as a backup next season and hopefully by 2023 he won't be needed at all.

I'm glad they resigned JMK as while he's not your first choice hooker he's actually been quite good in that position for us and having seen his recent interview prior to his comeback a few weeks ago on the Bulldogs website, he showed a lot of passion in wanting to get back out there and help the boys and went on to say he needs to play well for the rest of the season as he's playing for another possible contract. Well since he's been back they've like what they've seen and he's got himself another 2 years.

Remember he can play various positions and has done so in the time he's been with us so that doesn't leave us out the race in getting Brandon Smith who I feel will be with us if not next year, the year after as from what I've heard he loves being coached by Bellamy and that's the main reason he's staying at the Storm until Bellamy has retired and that is when he finishes at the Storm as he said he can't see himself coaching at any other club.

Agreed mate.

Look - I can mud sling at decisions at the club at the best of times - but what are the other options we have at the moment?

Also - bare in mind, this decision came very close to when Hetherington decided to see with the Bronx. So my guess is, JMK was the back up if we did not snag Hetho.

Furthermore - look at the hooker market (BSmith is not available) - and tell me who would you sign as a hooker?

Mitch Rein
Kurt Mann?
Joey Lussick
Mitch Kenny
Billy Britain
Silva Havili
Danny Levi

Not a fantastic list of talent - mostly just battlers. Some have shown patches of good form, but none consistent enough to warrant starting position in a team that wants to go somewhere.
