Now that the smoke is clearing, are we in a better position, I dont think so.
Dean Pay was always going to be an interim coach. He failed because of the ineptitude of the board.
They offered absolutely no support at any time.
Will things change with a new coach? I dont think so.
The best solution is to replace the board entirely. They all sit around having a circle jerk about their past performances.
They contributed absolutely nothing to the club. An EGM is necessary and is being arranged.

Dean Pay was not handcuffed in his time at the club,he got who he asked for in assistants and was happy with those that were in place. The only player the board said no to was Grub and that was what led to him leaving. He had years to set junior development in place but chose to ignore it.He did not work with the lower grade coaches to help players better themselves and was led to believe that old school coaching would turn the team around.
Can only hope the new coach has the balls to oversee juniors as you can’t buy a premiership but you can grow premiership players.

All we know is it couldn't continue as it was.

The Board and Pay giveth and the Board hath taken away.

We are mere pawns and await the outcome of this Boards governance.
Let’s face it the only thing that saved pay last year was our good finish it gave us some hope leading into 2020.
However the game has changed this year the rules are different.the coaches that have tweaked the way there sides play and have adjusted are the teams that are doing well.all the clubs this year bar us and the dragons are playing like last year and I think this was dean pays undoing.

Getting barret will be good for our halves and attacking structures IMO the other bonus with him is that he has a strong relationship which Gus who will be a very handy resource for him and the club
The overall quality of the available coaches not contracted (Griffin, Walters etc) is poor and none of them are premiership winners. Having a quick look at the past premiership winning coaches over the last decade with the exception of Bellamy most of them were relatively new with less than 7 years experience or had previously won a premiership within their first 7 years when they wont their next title. Robinson (x3), Macguire (2014), Hasler (2008,11), Green (2015), Bennett (2010), Flanagan (2016). Green is doing poorly, Bennett is past it, Hasler hell no and the rest wouldn't come here anyway. So the form trend with coaches indicates that it is a relatively new coach with modernised and fresh ideas, tactically smart and with current form on the board is more likely to succeed. A very experienced coach who has never yet achieved a premiership is unlikely to win one with the Dogs. This leaves Barrett as the one left standing from a list of poor options. The fact that he had a crappy end after a good year at Manly is a positive for Barrett and our board in that due diligence on both parties requires them to put in measures to ensure that it does not happen here. If he's smart Barrett knows his shortcomings from that experience and would benefit from that experience.

Mate that’s a pretty in depth analysis but it’s high quality and makes a lot of sense well done

Don't believe all you read and hear but...
There has been attempts by the club to lure Bellamy and Bennett
The results in short...
Bellamy, No for next year maybe 2022 !
Bennett, Yes with many demands, it met rejections by the management !
In life there are no guarantees but can we afford to take chances on Barrett as reported for the next three years
Does our current environment allow it ???
yes, i know, we met with Bennett after souths loss.
i think for Barrett, very important which team he surrounds himself with, he cant afford poor staff like Antonelli and Georgallis.

I think Baz will do well, as long as he can get the right assistants around him.

You left out Wane, assistant to Maguire in 2010 were they won a premiership, took over the coaching role in 2012, won a premiership in 2014, runner up in 2015, premiership in 2016, runner up in 2017 and premiership in 2018. Took over as England coach this year from Bennett.

I was talking about NRL coaches. However that coaching trend is happening in the UK as well. All the more reason to appoint someone with a few years experience rather than an old hand who hasn't yet won a title

Personally think that Wane would be a very good addition. Is he attainable now though?
