The raiders I can somewhat agree with but the knights for example have improved off the back of paying money for the like of Mitchell Pearce, klemmer, ponga etc, same with the roosters, yea you need juniors coming through and we don’t exactly have an abundance coming through but at some point you’ve gotta spend some cash to improve the club
We absolutely have to spend, but at the same time we have to spend on the right players. So far our biggest signings have been Napa (a bench prop), DWZ (flopped at fullback) and Thompson (unknown). We then have players like Meaney on a reported 300k, not to mention all those other bit part players on overs that never eventuated to shit.

Who on earth is in charge of recruitment and retention? Do we even have a scouting team? What processes do they have in place? Our recruitment and retention is a disaster along with our coaching department. No one is joining us and improving/increasing their value.

If you're in charge of the Bulldogs right now how many players do you need?

When the Bulldogs are 500:1 to win, 1000:1 to win the premiership this year, they're no chance (winning the premiership).

They've got money to spend but where are they going to go buy the players?

The only place they can go buy the players is from other clubs. Which is going to weaken them and it's going to weaken themselves in the long run because they're going to have to pay more to do it (overs).

If you're solely based on recruitment, you will eventually end up in salary cap problems.

You have to have a development program underneath that's producing good young talent coming through. You look at the teams that are doing well this year, the Panthers, Roosters, Knights and Raiders have gone through this process.
How did Gus go with his master plans for Penrith and also helping out st George last year?
Has great knowledge of the game but his way of doing business and getting results on the field is not the best.

We are starting to get some good juniors come through now, just offer Grant/Bateman or Fifita a healthy contract shed some dead wood and the rest will sort itself out.
Blood some juniors such as Schoup, Biondi and Topine and play Averillo and RT more
Fifita should be our main target...If grant was available he would be top of the tree...but Fafita will be a leader of our forwards...mongrel combined with skills and athletism....build a team around him

You don't need to be an Einstein to know how it works...
But when you have a struggling inexperienced coach at the helm there is not a hope in hell in that happening soon enough
Who would advise their teenage son to go to a club that is ridden with problems ?
For now we have to build a winning roster to become attractive and we have to pay for it !!!
We can not wait for juniors to rebuild the first team, time will take care of the bred not bought business !
Football is a business, if you are not successful no one wants to know you, the sponsors the media not even your own fans !
It's a harsh reality but the people that wants you to stay down will have you believing otherwise !!!

Absolutely spot on mate.

Some folks just dont get it!

Not only do we have to invest heavily back into our junior system, we need to look into new markets.

Something down the lines of the Pacific Islands, and outback NSW and QLD
none of those are new markets, literally the standard tapped out markets.

We need to look at england, france and the nfl. England have a big nursery, France have an underdeveloped one with growth potential and the nfl discard playerds who are 110 kilods and run the hundfred in 11 flat every year.

Well there are also Suburbs such as Canterbury, Dulwich Hill, Hurlstone Park, Marrickville, and Petersham. They are more hipster and make nice Soy Lattes. Isn't that attractive enough for the modern day footballer? Lol.
No, everyone has got it wrong. What he was saying was these players will come to the bulldogs for less because Campsie, Belmore, Lakemba, Wiley Park and Punchbowl are the classiest suburbs in the world. Which player doesn’t want to hang out there.

hard to believe but I remember Storm players and coach when they were building the club early 2000’s they were looking to the Bulldogs as a club to try and emulate the culture and toughness.

whatever Folksey was doing back then just worked. Wish he was still around to offer some guidance right now
In Thurston Book he said folksy always said it was us against them

We could use another region like that.
We have da area.

some school in brizzy.

We should look at port macquarie type region, which is kinda newcastle but kinda not.

Get the bit between newcastle and titans areas.

Recruiting Ricky Stuart at the end of his career and then appointing him to coach lower grades worked out well for us with Anasta, Sherwin and Thurston all coming through the ranks in that time and being of obvious First grade standard when they debuted. Is it too late to get James Maloney interested?

I’d take Maloney in a heart beat honestly.

Des did not neglect the juniors.

Des is like Bennett, they can only coach a team with a top 4 roster.

It is not the job of a head coach to develop juniors. It is the job of the club. A head coach only coaches the NRL side.

To add to that, the head coach does not run the club
Your correct he didn't run the club be ran the football department. Had control of recruitment retention and expenditure. No your still correct he didn't run the club. You are still correct he doesn't run junior development. He does hire the person who recruits, he does hire the assistants and he doe Run the football department. Under his control we failed to make the too 8 in reserves a few times and many times in the under 20s. We sore how many kids come through the grades mbye maybe. Go back to 2012. Grand final in all 3 grades. Kasiano Klemmer Reynolds Jackson Finucane lafai Barba Tapau all come from the lower grades into 1st grade. After no development, no recruitment, no cap we are here. Rebuilding. We have a junior program again after des failed, we will see 5 or 6 kids come through in the next year or 2. More in 3 or 4. Des done to the Bulldogs what Rossi done to Ducati lol.
