The struggling Canterbury Bulldogs are considering making a move for renowned rugby union coach Eddie Jones for next season.

Current England coach Jones has reportedly expressed interest in a code switch and has already attracted the eye of the Cronulla Sharks.

But Wide World of Sports has learned that the Bulldogs, having almost certainly missed out on super coaches Craig Bellamy and Wayne Bennett, are now looking in Jones' direction.

Dean Pay is coming off contract at the end of this year and is one of a host of NRL coaches under pressure to keep their jobs for 2021.

Pay inherited a poor roster at the start of last season and has struggled to get the best out of the Bulldogs.

They missed the finals last season and look likely to do so again this year, sitting at the bottom of the ladder with just one win to date.

Jones, who turned 60 this year, has a glittering coaching resume with both Australia and England and is regarded as one of the great thinkers in world rugby.

Former Wallabies coach Alan Jones made the switch to league with both Balmain and Souths in the 1990s but enjoyed little success.

Really?? A Union coach can be the answer.?

Different game and structures although Les Kiss who used to play NRL made the transition to union as a defensive coach....

Apparently Eddie had a dream that he was wearing a bulldogs jumper so now our board can trot out the DNA line when we hire him

Either the club has lost it , or Eddie Jones has employed the Australian media to get him a NRL gig

True or not imo just a distraction. Wouldnt surprise me if this came from inside the club.
Normally news like this come out when fans are getting impatient.
Probably some signing news will be released soon or thommo marketing/feel good story.

I think it was Matt Rogers who recently came out and said that he has absolutely no doubts that Eddie Jones would make a fantastic NRL coach. He said that his commitment to the intricacies and details for rugby would allow him to pick up rugby league's same intricacies with ease.
It's definitely left field, but he might provide a very real variation in attack that could prove to be very successful. The fundamentals of the sport are very similar and He has coached at the highest level for a long time, and could probably lure some great up and coming rugby talent to our club.
It's a very left field idea, but it could work.

haha...I mentioned Jones yesterday in rumors.

What is wrong with the idea? he is a very good man manager and coach. Also will open up player options outside of NRL for the club.

OMFG. Now linked to a coach from another code.
This board can't buy a vowel on Wheel of Fortune.
What absolute shit c**ts. They have no idea.
Times like these I miss Dib and even when Greenberg was CEO.
Sack the board. Stop paying these pinheads

If we are left to scrape the bottom of the barrel for a coach I'd rather keep Pay

The Dogs need a coach that can also attract quality players to the club. Sorry, but hard pass for Eddie.

This would be an epic disaster imo.

I know we’re desperate but a rugby coach right now is not the answer.

Half the side can’t play rugby league so let’s get a ra ra coach to teach them....faaark offff

Whose the coach that's available who could attract quality players to the club? Genuinely at a loss

Yeah that's what we need a Rugby Union coach ffs. Would he even know the rules? Every year there seems to be new ones.

TBH I know nothing of him. But his credentials might land some good rugby converts in our backline.
