If NrL are the first (or only) back. They can absolutely dominate the sporting market and expand into Nz, the USA, SA or wherever.

Good call. No one has anything live to watch and it will put us on the map.

Wouldn't mind Japanese Team. The Tokyo Snakes. Sounds legit @Nasheed ?

I agree mate re: the state of the game, but I think the rot set in before Todd - Dave Smith was a bad choice.
Still, Todd has been in the chair 4 years and has had ample time to set the game up for the future and the virus has exposed that failure.
I agree that V'Landys is a much better operator and although there'd be a lot going on behind the scenes right now keeping Todd busy - I've really noticed how V'Landys has taken the front seat media wise and kept Todd in the background - I wonder if that's a sign of things to come.
Irrespective of the individuals - it's clear the vehicle itself needs a shake-up.
I agree - when listening to the talking heads of the NRL over the last decade they seem to have either limited understanding of the game or be limited to clichés and buzz words (they have attended the seminars and workshops run by media groups - ive been to them in my previous employ) when speaking. The focus on perception and marketing at the expense of reality and product eventually catches up with people and organisations. Wayne Pearce - good man good footballer - heading up a group tasked with innovation etc - and being a public spokesperson - doesn't instill confidence.
Vlandys seems far more pragmatic and less likely to be driven by popularism.

What a load of BS....the NRL are delusional if they think that the competition will restart on may 28.....so everyone else has to adhere to social distancing measures but not rugby league players....FFS we are going through a world crisis and these fukin muppets at ARL want to start predicting when the comp starts!

Just shows how incompetent the nrl is to think you can get a business running again when no one knows how long this shutdown will be . There desperation for money through their incompetence and waste of money is on display here. Surprised vylandis such a smart guy will go along with this. He must be worried about his pay packet

I think the Tallinn Trolls would make a better side personally.
Out of interest - is there a Manly in Estonia just like there is a Granville?

Interesting career you've had mate - Pornstar, Freedom Fighter and now Pollie! You got gifts!
btw - it's spelt Katter :-).

Not everyone has to adhere to "social distancing", there are plenty of exceptions, basically anyone providing an "essential service" which includes people like supermarket workers, plus the obvious, doctors nurses, firefighters, police officers, etc etc. Plus a lot of not so obvious such as workers on building sites, NBN service techs etc etc. The NSW Government has received advice from the psychology experts in the Health Department that live sport is very important relieve the genpop stresses associated with the "stay at home policy". Hence why League (and other sports) have been exempted, there will be more announcements as the new C-19 cases continue to reduce.

There are a lot of detailed conditions associated with the season restart, that's what they have to work through in the next 6 weeks. It's far from a back to normal NRL training, games, socialising, family parties, nights out with the boys scenario. There are strict conditions and health checks to be put in place. For example if players are allowed to return after games to their families then the family unit has to self isolate, as it does now. Players themselves are to be very closely monitored, with regular checks.

As usual the problem is we don't know what we don't know, but there will be a lot more information released over the coming weeks.

Yes mate I totally agree that P.V has taken the stage regarding media interviews and announcements in general.
It almost feels like Todd is avoiding the camera just in case some difficult questions are asked or he is being shielded by management.
I also noticed that Wayne Pearce interview this morning on a possible restart to the season was a solo run.
Perhaps his fate is already sealed, might be just waiting for our virus to settle down.

If this goes ahead then this could be the biggest anti-climax of all time. We wait three months for another game and can't wait to see our team play again and then they will probably play the same, boring and predictable style where we'll continue to look like a Reserve Grade side.

Sometimes people have to be careful what they wish for.

You would hope that the club would use this shortened season to prioritise the development of our youngsters as much as possible but with Pay fighting for his job, I expect more conservative play and Tolman playing 60 minutes like usual.

How many paid groups has the nrl set up ? How many bullshit job have they created where they actually don't do anything? What happened to this multi billion tv deals money? Where has the nrl quality improved in the last decade?
The nrl deserves to die and a proper competition reborn

The problem with them being allowed to go back home with their families is that if any family member gets it, then a player or staff member gets it, then they have to shut down that whole club as well as the whole comp.

The NRL are incredibly desperate to aim for a return date so soon while the rest of us live in a bubble for however many more months.

Believe it or not footy players are humans too and are just as vulnerable to getting infected as the rest of us. Letting players sweat and bleed all over each other while we can't even go to a public park or see family members outside of our household doesn't make too much sense.

Indeed. Interesting that Wayne, despite being in charge of ‘Project Apollo’ and being a Commissioner for several years is now front and centre. Maybe we’re reading into things that aren’t there. Time will tell...

Grooming Wayne Pearce for the job?
Agreed, I hope this isn’t a half baked shit show, I’m shocked (but not really) that Channel 9 weren’t brought into the discussions re:broadcasting earlier. I absolutely would’ve had a CH9 exec on that innovation panel to a. Show that the NRL we’re aligned with the broadcasters and b. For the CH9 executive to give input into the structure and whether it could work.

I’d say they’re scrambling right now to get someone onboard, clearly they’re unhappy with TG, he’ll be a casualty of this no doubt...

Imagine the backlash if the virus did go viral amongst the players and their families.

The Ruby Princess fiasco would pale in comparison and set back the NRLol even more than Toddy's admin.

The Qld Premier has said the current crisis is too precarious to even be thinking of re-starting the game. Therefore you would think that Qld won't be giving them the go ahead to use any Qld assets for a start.

If that's the case, Gladys won't risk her neck for the NRLol...but Ch9 do have a lot of sway and influence...that would be Vlad and TG's only hope.
Appreciate your opinion.

but how and why are our infection rates a drop in the ocean? I’d like to think because we acted quicker than Italy and USA.

it’ll enrage me if this became ruby princess 2. We’ve done so well this far, I don’t want anything to compromise it.

You may be right but it’s just not worth it. This is peoples lives we’re playing with... let’s just be conservative and let it ride out a bit.

The Ruby Princess was a boat load of people that had already had the virus spreading in a confined space that got released into the community before social distancing was in place. It’s the longest bow to draw in history to compare it to the NRL starting the comp again in seven weeks time.

The infection rate when they stopped the comp was over 20% and it’s just over 1% currently so if people continue to do the right thing imagine what it would be like in 7 weeks. They are taking the right precautions and if things turn bad I’m sure they won’t start back up.

Construction sites are in full swing and many other places of business are still running. The NRL are going to use very similar protocols as horse racing have been and they haven’t had any problems so far.
maybe you’re right. The issue with infection rates is that we don’t have a wide criteria for testing. We don’t test for asymptomatic patients.

The NRL are only thinking of the $$$, while Annastacia Palaszczuk is thinking of people.

She got a lot of shit thrown at her, regarding the recent elections.

What the media didn't say was, they couldn't be stopped. Also voters could have applied for a postal vote, but they were too lazy to do so.

Interesting disagree MaxAbuBob.
What exactly is it you disagree with?

1) The Tallin Trolls aren't the next Toronto Wolfpack?
2) There isn't a Manly in Estonia?
3) You haven't had a storied career?
4) Bob Katter's surname isn't spelt Kattar?

Could you clarify? Or should I just wait for another ❌ from you, Nasheed, perhaps Leeds_Doggie or someone else?
Baited breath...
