Still doesn't answer the question as to why he was let go though... How can the club expect members and fans to keep their money in the club during this economic time without games and not offering full transparency in a situation like this... Shows a lack of respect and honesty imo.
I can understand your point, fear of legal action would be one reason I guess,

Yeah ... but looking past all the shit going on about whether the club was right or wrong etc.

You don't find it strange that the day after we've let these two players go that not one of the papers has a story about it? No follow up about how the club / players have screwed over the NRL and community? Shit. What happened that Mad Monday? Pretty much week upon week of backpage stories. Now?

I don't know. I just find it a little weird myself.
It's obviously because there are more pressing issues to report at the moment that dominate the headlines.

You think? Not so sure about that ...

SMH has stories on The Morris Twins fearing reunion will be called off, the senior womens' league pushing for SOO games, Bellamy talking about how bored he is etc. etc. ...

Telecrap has stories Curtis Scott catching a big fish; proposed new start dates for the comp, Bennett's plan for the future, Johns' brothers blue etc. etc. ...

It was a genuine question because based on our past dealings with the media I honestly expected a shitshow about this. Absolutely nothing at all. If you find it normal, OK. Not here to argue about it, just was making an observation in the hope some of you more educated guys would know what's going on. Guess not. All good.

Anything negative in relation to the Bulldogs will always take a priority, Corona or not. Strange

Yeah, that's my thinking. Fucking hate the media and the circus they always seem to make about us. The Mad Monday fiasco was fucking embarrasing in how they covered it, and let's be honest, that was absolutely nothing. This is pretty big with JO & CHN and would get big clicks on their sites etc. But absolutely nothing. Bizarre.

Because they've already got what they wanted from the story and moved on to others. All they can really do now is praise the NRL and Bulldogs for their hard stance as that's what they've been asking for....think Kent did one but really won't see much more.

It's probably because the story has ran it's course now that the punishment has been handed down. There's not much more to report...

It is hella sad we lost CHN? Yes
What about Oks? Meh. He's a player that could of gone either way. It seems he was more worried about his D then the team D. Cause he failed at the latter.
Is the punishment justified? For a club trying to re-brand themselves, hell yes.
But what they did was not a crime. So why? Because it is morally wrong. Think of what this does to us as a club, now that schools are aware of what happened.
They could of swept it under the rug? And that makes what they did any better?

It's a crappy situation to be in. You have to give credit to the club for taking such a stance.

Just made a quick list of players that have committed illegal offence or offences that shine a "bad light" on the game that have been able to continue to play the Game.
Note that some of these "offenders" have been arrested twice.

I find it very hard to comprehend that anyone that thinks the club has made the right call on this.
A) reporting it to the NRL instead of trying to keep it inside the club
B) fighting the NRL with the heavy Ban for Corey. Okun should have been punished but when you compare his incdient to some of the ones below you can see its a bit of a stitch up.

They should have fought the NRL on this and fought to the death but instead we have sat on our hands and made the best out of this situation by freeing up money for our/cap.

  • Fonua-Blake was charged with assaulting his girlfriend and was stood down by the Dragons. He was sacked by the Dragons in June after pleading guilty to the charge
  • John Sutton and Luke Burgess -In February 2015, it was revealed that Rabbitohs captain John Sutton and player Luke Burgess were arrested in Arizona on November 30. A bouncer allegedly told Sutton to leave an Arizona bar. Sutton allegedly became restless and Burgess got into a fight with the bouncer.
  • Willis Meehan On April 7, promising youngster Willis Meehan was stood down by the Roosters after he was charged with robbery in company and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. On April 4, Meehan allegedly headbutted a man and stole his watch. He was placed on a good behaviour bond without conviction.
  • Andrew Fifita and David Fifita -Andrew Fifita reportedly told a junior referee “I’ll smash you” at a junior rugby league match on July 25. The referee said Fifita had to be held back to prevent him from taking the phone belonging to the referee, who had been recording Fifita. The brothers were banned for six weeks and fined $30,000 for the incident
  • Dylan Walker and Arron Gray-On September 22, South Sydney Rabbitohs pair Dylan Walker and Aaron Gray were hospitalised after the two friends overdosed on prescription drugs. The pair were placed in induced comas at St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney. Later that year, Walker was released from his contract with the Rabbitohs and left to sign with the Manly Sea Eagles.
  • Matt Lodge On October 16, Matt Lodge was arrested in New York over a drunken home invasion. In the video of the incident, Lodge was seen punching a hole in the wall and shouting abuse. Lodge’s contract with the Tigers was terminated on October 18. Lodge spent two weeks in jail after being released to serve community service.
  • Mitchell Pearce On January 27, a video was released of Roosters halfback Mitchell Pearce attempting an unwanted kiss on a woman and simulating a sex act on a dog. Pearce was admitted to rehabilitation for an alcohol problem.
  • Liam Knight -On March 16, Liam Knight was stood down by the Manly Sea Eagles after he was arrested for DUI and speeding. Knight was driving at 137km/h in a 70km/h zone and was three times over the alcohol limit. He pleaded guilty and was given an 18-month good behaviour bond.
  • Corey Norman, James Segeyaro and Junior Paulo -Junior Paulo posted a photo on Instagram dining with senior bikie Paulie Younan. Corey Norman and James Segeyaro were also pictured in the photograph. NRL CEO Todd Greenberg called the image a “bad look for the game”.
  • Corey Norman On May 25, news broke that Corey Norman was charged with drug possession after capsules of MDMA and prescription drug Antenex were seized from him at Sydney’s Star Casino. Norman pleaded guilty to the charges. He was later suspended by the NRL for eight rounds.
  • James Roberts On August 24, the Brisbane Broncos fined James Roberts $20,000 for an alleged incident that occurred on August 14. Roberts allegedly abused a woman and had to be restrained by security guards on a drunken night out at a Brisbane hotel. No charges were laid and police were not involved.
  • Kenny Edwards On December 12, Kenny Edwards was charged with common assault and intimidation for an event that occurred the day earlier. Edwards poured alcohol over his girlfriend during an argument. He pleaded guilty in February and was fined $60,000 by the Eels.
  • James Roberts On January 16, the Courier Mail reported James Roberts was accused of violently pulling the hair of a young woman at a Gold Coast nightclub. No charges were laid and police were not involved.
  • Bodene Thompson On September 11, news broke that Bodene Thompson’s former partner, stripper Belinda Medlyn, alleged she had group sex sessions with Thompson and his teammates. The allegations arose during a dispute over finances to raise their child. Thompson accused Medlyn of threatening to expose the story unless he gave her $50,000. Medlyn said she was forced to ask for money after a financial agreement between the pair broke down.
  • Kenny Edwards On April 19, Eels second-rower Kenny Edwards allegedly ran from police after being caught driving on a suspended licence. Edwards was charged and pleaded guilty. On May 19, Edwards was released by the Eels after the club’s internal investigation.
  • Andrew Fifita and Josh Dugan In a podcast hosted by two UFC fighters, Cronulla Sharks teammates Josh Dugan and Andrew Fifita went on a swear-laden rant against a Sydney journalist. The pair were handed an official warning by the club.

You can compare incidents to you’re blue in the face but at the end of the day it means very little. What the players did divides opinion some think it’s minor thing and some think it’s a very serious thing. When you start bringing school students into a team hotel on a club sanctioned trip you’re playing with fire in a massive way and you’re kidding yourself if sweeping it under the carpet was the correct action.

There’s no way the club have used this to create cap or save money they simply breached the policy and that was it.

With the right legal team and a bit of backbone they could have fought the NRL on this and would have won Corey back his spot.

Trying to sweep it under the carpet would have be a better choice in my opinion. It works for the Roosters and the Broncos.

I honestly don’t care that they didn’t fight it. It shows the respect these two had for the club in the first place. It hurts us on the field losing CHN but accepting this type of behaviour undermines every other player doing the right thing.

It doesn’t always get swept under the carpet look at Pearce at the Roosters.

Im in agreement - Whether or not we think what they did was legally / morally right wrong or "meh", or if the punishments were appropriate - their actions put the club in the difficult situation - it was their actions that led to the club losing sponsors / money - it was their actions that resulted in the club not being able to field the strongest 17 - it was their actions that put teammates / supporters in difficult situations - would we want individuals who are prepared to impact so negatively upon others for their moments of pleasure be part of the club going forward.

What the people in this forum who are against the sacking fail to understand, is these issues aren't black and white - anytime a player does something which brings the Club & NRL as a whole into a negative light, it has to be taken in the context of the issue itself. Any comparison is apples to oranges and is pointless debating. Is murder worse than attempted murder? Sure, however, both deserve to be punished.

If Jay and Corey met these high schoolers at a family friends Christmas party, then took them to a hotel room and that was the end of it, they probably do end up with a couple of months suspension and a community + code of conduct program before they're playing again in 2020. Hell, if that scenario never leaked, they'd been playing in round 1, as we're certain many other NRL players work their way through the endless list of groupies their level of celebrity attracts.

But that's not what happened.

Jay and Corey weren't on some road trip up to Port for a weekend of fishing and surfing on their own time. They were up there on club time, representing our club and the NRL, reaching out to regional centres (who have a pathway into our juniors that other clubs won't have the direct access to that we now do), spending time engaging with the community as part of the trial game with Canberra. They then took the opportunity, and in Jays case, leveraged his direct celebrity status as an NRL player, to not only get his dick wet, but with a high school girl for Gods sake, back at the club hotel room. Add in Corey using club provided accommodation as a means to help get his rocks off as well, after all the drama in the early 2000s with Coffs, that alone is just as bad as what Jay has done.

Also, can we please also stop comparing NRL players to your average Joe workplaces/ careers? Unless your work is televised internationally 4 days a week, with multi-billion dollar TV rights deals, direct and third-party sponsorships with direct community impacts (outreach programs and the like). And if this is the case, feel free to tell me about how you're comfortable letting your employees/ representatives of your league go into schools as part of the community outreach programs and take highschool girls back to the club hotel room for a root, and how you'll retain your sponsors, TV rights deals, etc because I'd fucking love to hear it.

I agree with some of your post but saying what Corey did is just as bad ad Jay is rubbish.

Corey did not attend the school. Nor did the girl attend the school that the players attended. They met on a social media platform. Yes he did break the club rules but if you think this warrants him being fired and his contract torn up and thrown under the bus with Jay you have your Pro board googles on. If you have any contact with the club or the people who run back to the current board and keep them update on things dicussed on here maybe ask them for the full story. FULL story regarding Corey.

Jay did the damage and i said from day one needed to be dealt with. But Corey was thrown under the bus in this case and i hope he takes advice he has been given and takes them to the cleaners.
