In light of the dramas we've seen recently with our game. Will eradicating or partly eradicating the salary cap work? I believe it's run it's course and if anything it's proven it doesn't work. It'll bring more sponsorship to the game and allow the game to put more money in the bank. Survival of the fittest. If it means we lose weak teams along the way, then so be it.

Nasheed here,
Why doesn't it work?

in my opinion coaches should be exempt from cap. Facilities and staff should be the reward for running your team good like Souths, but that's where it ends, we need socialism in the playing pool to even it out. It works. Otherwise Brisbane win Comp 9 years out of ten. Nasheed.

I just hope the NRL survives in general, I mean even if that means losing a few teams, the bit that worries me is if this goes in too long, no games being played, no tv/games = no ratings, which means no money and broke. It’s very possible..!!

It worked before the game went professional. The shit clubs were rescued by the NSWRL like the Sharks and Magpies when they were on the brink. The Jets folded, but that was the evolution of the game in a competition that had clubs at a stone throw from each other.

Absolutely possible. If the game has to rise like a Phoenix, then the business model has to change.

It may have to happen if some clubs go under. Which at this point I feel is going to happen.

As crap as it seems and me being a conspiracy theorist. The nrl may hate having the TV pulled but would love to cull Sydney teams. WA and a second Brisbane team will be in the comp for next rights deal. Teams from Sydney will be forced to relocate. Survival of the fittest. The nrl may have been.given billions but it was still run like it was in the 90s . The 90s prob was run better with Arthurton and Quayle. New professional comp coming. The sharks will go and then an inner west team. Unfortunately manly is needed as a geographical location. Tigers bulldogs Parramatta may have cash but will need to move into northern beaches.
On conspiracy side the virus was the making of the one world government.

Trying to be positive - the desperate nature of the situation will bring forward the need to make hard decisions that will prolong the game. This is affecting all pro sports particularly team sports. Amalgamation of some Sydney clubs and expansion to growth areas to ensure 8 games a week can work - at the end of this pay tv will be keen for product and audiences -NRL needs to become an increasingly more attractive place for corporate dollars than Union, A league etc.
Original geographical areas are less relevant - branding n success increasing important in gaining support.
NFL and NBL and Premier league teams / franchises have supporters all over the world based on branding n success. It happens here but on a more reduced scale.

We should be hoping the NRL Burns in eternity so something half decent can rise from its place that isn’t the shitfire dumpster we endure today.

Just on that conspiracy, what is it that is wrong with the idea of a one world government. In the end we are all human and there is a possibility of no need to fight over land rights

I think the cap will be rendered useless by the beginning of next season.
All but 2or3 teams will have no chance of being able to spend anything even approaching “the cap”.

Roosters have been going without a cap limit for years, so why not!

I beleive there is too many teams atm.
There isnt enough viable talent for each club as it is.
Each team should have at least one marquee player, at the moment some teams have none ,like us , and some have 2 or more.
Next year will benefit us, because the cap will be reduced we will have options for players to pick up other teams will have to release

Cap may be rendered useless after this for a short term but unless society changes there will still be media chasing advertisers and to do that they need a popular medium to sell to them .Sport is that and NRL is the leader. Money in today’s society will be the same carrot in the future.
Less teams to start with as players will not be as keen to make a career from a job which is lower paying and not as long term as a “normal “ job.

There should be a cap BUT they need to remove the floor that the clubs had to spend 95% of the cap. What this caused was caps being increased and also players being over payed . Some teams rosters should never ever be near the cap which means clowns are over payed
