The problem we have is that this is something that affects everyone and we can't easily fight it together because it's not a tangible enemy.

If we were invaded by aliens then humans would rise up together to fight. Change that invasive species to a virus that threatens everyone and it becomes more of a case of every man for himself. If someone is in trouble then we team up to help that person. If everyone is in trouble then humans look to protect their own first and foremost.

It's human nature. It can be overcome though but it requires good leadership and intelligent planning. Unfortunately I don't believe we have either.

There is enough food in Australia to feed everyone in Australia 4 times over, but people in Australia starve because no one in a position of power cares enough to fix the problems. They're too busy fighting among themselves for favoritism of the masses.
As much as history shows that things go down the crapper from time to time, it equally shows that things get good again pretty rapidly afterwards.

What really counts is what we do as people and as communities. Just heard today of a guy in Sydney who distills gin who has turned to making hand sanitizer to give to charities who need it like meals on wheels.

The difficulty for some people is that by having their attention too fixed upon an imaginary "end of days" scenario, they don't notice all the good stuff that is happening.

Unlike a war, capacity for production isn't going to be redirected to weapons or destroyed by bombs. It is going to have some downturn, but will very quickly come back online once the crisis passes.

DFAT seem to be wanting in handling this crisis.

A friend's daughter is in Chile with a heap of others. Border closed and they can't get onto any Embassy or emergency assistance numbers. They ring out or answered and hung up, or leave a message and no one following up.

They are desperate to get back home and our Govt says your on your own...make your own way.

The Dutch have hired buses and escorted their young women over the border into Mexico and flights home. The British, Irish, Polish, and couple other nationalities are in constant communication with their nationals and working on exit strategies and time frames but our Aussie girls are stranded. Without even phone communication let alone assistance.

Very frightening and hopeless handling by Govt. This has been happening for days with no assistance. The family are distraught and the stark difference between the assistance given to other countries overseas nationals and our country is alarming they're saying.

There is information online claiming that DFAT has suffered some of the heaviest budget cuts over the last 5 years. That might help explain this...

Well....... interesting reading They do say no new local infections but that does not mean no new cases.
It doesn't mean a lot if I'm honest. The question everyone should be asking is what happens when they lift the ban there? The answer is that it'll all just start again.

To little to late I guess it's hear and there's no stopping it
Spot on unfortunately. What angers me is the attitude of the US and England in all of this. Their absolute contempt for people goes beyond comparison.

Put Australian gov is same bracket. Anyone could see what was going on in China, Italy, Iran but they sat on their hands and did fuck all. Still schools and businesses are open. Still sporting games will go ahead. Shithouse leadership

Only ever about the economy. That takes priority with Slowmo Sharkie.

@Lov_Dog and @Hacky McAxe The brains trust of the kennel.
Hubei/Wuhan
Has an area of 185,900 km² with 58.5million
People roughly 80,000 people contracted it with around 3500 deaths ( big question mark on China's honesty on this .and after 3 months apparently dropped right off with no reported cases today.
Australia has an area of
7,692,024 km2 with a population of around 25million people we are at the beginning with under 1000 infections and 5 dead granted we don't use most of our country but wouldn't our biggest defence in this be distance? And we got plenty of room.

So if all these Fucking panic buyer's and hoarders just slowed the fuck down or preferably the military just shoots them

Awwrgh well the Dutch spend 4.3 % GDP and we spend 1.3% GDP on foreign affairs/diplomatic matters etc.

No wonder the Dutch had funds to buss out their girls and arrange border crossings with both border Govts ...while our girls have to hitchhike or walk and try and make their own way out. Border is closed with Mexico and these girls are stranded.

Not good enough. There would be many more Aussies all over the World trying to get home from these isolated countries and Qantas cancelling all flights soon.
Try this, it is written by people who have seen the inside of a University.

Huge injection of cash to come from the reserve bank also mentioned today. Let's hope everyone saves and uses the money for good and not on bags and scotch.

There are at least 8 countries between Chile and Mexico... most of them unpleasant. So that would be one helluva bus ride! :grinning:

But speaking of the Dutch...
