When a U.S. based military force invades their Brooklyn neighborhood, 20-year-old Lucy and war veteran Stupe must depend on each other to survive.
There's a little more to this that I must explain, and I do apolgise as it will contains spoilers.
The movie starts with Lucy (Brittany Snow) and her boyfriend getting off a train in suburban Brooklyn, and walking into a war-zone. Lucy's boyfriend is immediately killed by an explosion. She seeks cover, and after some men following her attempt to rape her, she is rescued by Stupe (Batista). He is a skilled former marine medic and knows his way around his neighbourhood. Essentially, Bushwick, (the neighbourhood) has turned into a warzone as Mercs are taking over due to a number of other states breaking-away from the US.
**SPOILER WARNING**
After a heart-to-heart talk with Lucy, Stupe heads to the bathroom in a laundromat while the riots are still taking place outside. Without warning, he opens the bathroom door and is immediately shot dead by a teenage girl. Without warning the main character in the film is killed off. Well that was a bit of a shock, but we still had Lucy and she finds her sister, and they head off to the DMZ to evacuate. On their way, they travel through the biggest part of the riot zone. This part of the movie is quite entertaining as you have civilians with nothing to lose taking on the Mercs and fighting back. Lucy's sister is injured just before they hit the DMZ. Lucy attempts to drag her to the DMZ... but is shot in the head and killed (and just like that, both main characters in the movie are out of it). Lucy's sister is then dragged to the DMZ by other civilians. The camera then pans to the skyline and we find out that not only Bushwick, but the entire city of New York is a war zone... and that's how the movie ends.
After watching this movie for a short while, I realised that there was something different about it... and that it that there was very little camera panning in it, meaning long streaks of the movie were filmed in one go on one camera, not multiple camera angles. That means that not many mistakes or re-shoots were made. That's a credit to the actors.
I just couldn't understand why they would kill off the main 2 characters, then show that everything they were fighting for was a waste of time as the Mercs took over the entire city. It's also not believable that something like this could happen in New York as the amount of National Guards and Riot Police (not to mention soldiers not on duty), would easily outnumber any amount of Mercs that they have.
The ending was pretty dull, but for the most part, the movie did have a good amount of entertaining scenes.
7/10.
