Brisbane Broncos player Izaia Perese has been stood down from all duties with the club after being charged by police with drug offences.

Brisbane Broncos CEO Paul White said Perese had been stood down with immediate effect, and will not be required to train or play with the team.

White said the Broncos had made the NRL Integrity Unit aware of the issue, and will work closely with them moving forward.

“Standing down Izaia is not a judgement of his guilt or innocence, but recognition that this is a serious matter,” said White.

“We have discussed our course of action and the reasoning behind it with Izaia, and he understands the action we have taken.

“We will review the matter as it moves through the legal process.”

The club will be making no further comment on the matter at the present time.

If it was David Fifita they would have paid for his legal fees, put him in a luxury rehab clinic as a PR stunt and then extended his deal for half the amount every other club was offering with the rest made up with brown paper bags...

Instead, this guy will get released and his career likely will be in tatters. Isn't it funny how talent or a lack thereof dictates how much of a moral compass a club all of a sudden decides to have and how much they stand by a player?

He was the next big thing coming through the ranks at the QLD Reds and his move to the Broncos was always a strange one. I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes back if the Broncos end up sacking him

Check out some of his highlights in union playing for Australia U20s. Guy looks like a gun, reminds of Dylan Walker.
