Yes he didn't bring anyone in except maybe Williams??! But that's my point, the improvement l in that side was massive, average players performed well above what they were capable of and that's exactly what a good coach does. What happened after is a completely different matter.
Williams was a 2013 addition. I remember every miserable minute of those 4 years and $2m he stole from our club and publicly said he only did it for the money. I offered to help him clear out his locker at the end of 2016 just to make sure he was gone.

Bupa was 2012, he got hungry during the GF :-).

But I take your point in the difference between 2011 and 2012 given a largely similar squad and Des was on a roll having won the 2011 title with the Beagles.

He inherited the side that became successful in 2012.The side didnt improve the more Des had to do with team make up. It went the other way

Point was Des inherited a better side than Pay did by miles, so any success Pay has will carry more merit than anything Des did. Even at Manly in 2019, Des has inherited a good side. One of the best spines in the NRL (origin half, origin fb). Until proven otherwise, i will believe Des is over-rated and a 1 team specialist (Manly). The Manly side that he coached to GFs should have been up there, they were a great side. Not saying Des is a shithouse coach, but i think he is more average than some other ppl do though. And he should not be allowed as much say in the club as he had, he is a shit businessman and recruiter.
You can’t say that, cause it means your salty

Who the fuck even cares about Pay, why are you even talking about him? This isn't Pay vs Des, it's not even a Des vs anyone. It's simply giving credit to Des for doing a good job but some fans seem to have a problem doing that because everything is either all good or all bad with them.
I am normally spend my time chipping Sancho2020 about his "Fatal Attraction" issue with Lewis, but here I reckon he has a valid point. Des is gone and so are all connected board wise and staff. The simple fact is regardless of whether you liked Desball or not he was 80 minutes away from being a Canterbury premiership winning coach not once but twice in 5 years. His plan was all or nothing and we ended up with nothing but he could easily have been hero instead of villain.

Make no mistake I am fuckin glad he is gone and I personally love the Bulldog feel about the joint again, but it is ignorant and dumb to say Hasler is not a good coach.

The current group in charge have a mandate and have had plenty of time to apply their plan, hire their staff and build the team and also had the luxury of excusing performance because of salary cap issues and the mess left behind. But, time for excuses is over and although we are not back to our prime position cap wise we are almost there so we had BETTER continue from where we left of last season as an absolute minimum.

Top 4 and winning the comp are not expected in 2020 but top 8 with sustained effort and commitment by all at the club should be the absolute minimum KPI set, for Pay and the board to continue in 2021 and beyond. We need to show players from other clubs that are worth signing from round 1 that we are a club on the way back up that we will not settle until we are premiers again.

Onya Basil. Well said.
You’re right that Des applied the same plan he did at Manly and he got away with destroying that club once because he had two titles to show for it. We might not be so dirty today had the same happened to us, but not only was there no silverware to show for it, he also cleaned out our vault for him and his mates. Anyway. Bygones and as you say the peninsula poison is all but removed (Foran is the last trace of it) and momentum starts this year to be back to where we belong. Roll on! 46 days to go!

Des single handily destroyed our club 80 minutes from being a hero? He couldn’t even handle 2012 grandfinal after 20 minutes. Bellamy fucked his game plan and des was left standing there scratching his head.
2014 was the biggest fluke to make the grandfinal but again des had no answer and the game was gone by half time.
So let me ask you this what’s so great about this so called super coach?
The backend deals?

never dropping a player for bad form?

Releasing great players and replacing them with duds.

One out plays?

No last tackle option?

Said no to Munster no to Mitchell?

Bought woods ????

Let go of 2 of our best captains?

Do I need to go on, if you think his a good coach then you my friend must hate the bulldogs.

No he didn't, we finished 9th in 2011 so what successful side did he inherit? You lot need to stop being so salty.
It astounds me that people think he inherited a good side.

We had halves of Keating, Plodkinson and Grub LOL.

Unfortunately you are just giving more weight to Sanch2020's argument. There are plenty of coaches that never see the GF, let alone the 5 times Hasler teams (Manly and the Dogs) have been there and he won premierships as a player and a coach. You should learn to read before dishing up shit like "I must hate the Bulldogs" I never said I liked Des or Desball and I have been very critical on these forums about the damage he left with his all or nothing master plan.

I was disgusted with SheRex, hated what Cleal did with our juniors, only was interested in Foran coming over in 2012/13 and not 5 years later, think Woods is only more over rated than Klemmer, loved Graham but he is past his best, glad we never signed fatso trouble making Mitchel and pissed we missed Munster.

Dont question my loyalty champion, I fucking love this club.. I am simply pointing out that Hasler could have been a two time winning Bulldogs coach, like it or lump it and your armchair expert opinion about what he should have or could have done in hindsight without any skin in the game does not really carry weight.

Grub was good player don’t be blind
Lets put it this way anyone in their right mind would not have seen the sqaud we had in the finals let alone the GF. The sqaud was AVERAGE at best.

Didn't we have Ben McDougal in the team? Lol. The only person who picked us to do well was Mark Geyer.

Josh was ok. Showed promise as a NSW CUP HOOKER in which Des got the best out of him as a half. Still doesnt change the fact he inherited busted Hokko, Keating lol and Grub a NSW CUP hooker. Hardly inheriting a good team LOL.

The spine players were average. Barba was hit or miss the year prior. Ennis was always good. Halves average and Barba the year prior couldn't catch a bomb to save his life.

I'm simply talking about what Des inherited.

Keating, Hokko and at the time a hooker from NSW cup, is not inheriting a good side.

Sure Des did some stupid shit. But he didn't inherited a good team it was big average.

Id say James Graham played a huge part of what happened in 2012 too.

Graham was the one that started the passing from a front row and starting the second phase play.
And 2012 was the last time we saw the second phase play.

Sure, but he's going out their playing to stuctures put in place by Des.

Fuck, you are just like my missus... you only hear what you want to hear. Read what I said and then feel free to apologise for being a dingbat. Let me summerise for you;

Des was shit for us, I AM GLAD HE IS GONE, HE FUCKED US WITH HIS BACKEND DEALS, HE IS NOT A BULLDOG... WTF is wrong with you.

Oh, but he still made 2 teams reach 5 GF'S.
