Manly coach Des Hasler is set to snare a replacement for the stood down hooker Manase Fainu, with Newcastle’s Danny Levi on the verge of switching clubs.

The Daily Telegraph reports Levi is set to finalise a deal with the Sea Eagles this week which will propel him into the club’s No.9 jersey.

According to the report, the Knights will chip in $150,000 for Levi to play for their rivals this season, while the Sea Eagles will pay $225,000.

The Sea Eagles’ hooking stocks took a huge hit in the off-season after Api Koroisau left for Penrith, while Fainu was stood down by the NRL after he was charged over the alleged stabbing of a man at a Mormon church dance in October.

It’s opened the door for Levi to move to the Northern Beaches after his playing future was left in limbo after the Knights signed Jayden Brailey from Cronulla.

Levi has played 83 NRL games since debuting for the Knights in 2015, but his form has started to waiver in recent seasons.

He was a noticeable absentee from the Knights’ team photo last week.

I wonder why he doesn't give Lichaa a call???
They probably haven't got the salary cap space for leagues million dollar kid. Aside from that, Hasler probably recalls the fact that Lichaa verbally shat on him in saying that he stifled his game/development after Hasler very generously paid one of the shittest 9's in the game good money for years and allowed him to have a million more chances to improve than he deserved. Hasler doesn't seem like he'd forget something like Lichaas media comments about that.

When a player like Levi is on $375k goes to show there's alot of overpaid players in the NRL.

I dare say Manly only agreed because Knights are footing some of the bill... still crazy though given that I don't believe he had any other options

Levi was a genuinely outstanding junior 4 or 5 years ago but has put the bare minimum effort into improving his craft since receiving a contract upgrade.

Throwing 400k/season at a largely unproven young Kiwi bonehead is a sure fire way to poison their work ethic. Levi a classic case.

agree after what he said , there was no way DES was going to do him favours
Also prob why no contract anywhere else , rest of the clubs would have taken notice that a ordinary playeR said publically and didn’t he also state that he didn’t follow the game plan last few games , which I’m sure coaches love to hire players who won’t follow game plan
