Yh he's defenitely more of a running threat and that's what we need, but I'm still just tempted to say fuck it and throw Averillo in next to Wakeham lol.
In time, that's what we truly hope will be our future combo. But throwing them both in together with two rookie halves at the same time would be doing them a disservice.

Averillo still needs time in Reserves and should be brought off the bench or in the centres at first until he gets a feel for FG before being given the responsibility of playing in the halves.

But i think Wakeham should start round 1 and has proven he's ready. And if we receive 350k of cap relief for Foran, then Douhehi would really only cost an extra 100k or so of cap space...

Plus he's Lebanese! Someone has to replace Lichaa. Haha

My point is, if we had the 350k compensation for Foran we'd be paying him 150k this year, less once you factor in Souths have already paid 1/4 of his salary this year.
His Souths contract goes till the end of 2021.
If he is on 500k and he does sign with us til the end of 2021, allowing 125k for the 3 months Souths would already have paid for this year (NRL contracts go from Nov 1 to Oct 31) and the 350k compensation, we'd be paying 525k out of the Salary cap for 2 seasons.
That's good value there in my opinion.
Well said. He's not worth 500k yet at all and I don't know what Souths were thinking when they signed him to that deal.

I can see him being worth that amount in a year or two once he plays consistent footy and like you said, with a potential 350k in cap relief, then Douhehi is much more affordable for us.

Both players aren't exactly lacking in confidence, not ideal situation but if Lewis and Cogger just offer more of the same then changes need to be made.

Yh I'm 100% behind the idea of starting Averillo at centre and going from there, not keen on moving Smith away from the wing unless we're signing JAC. Offers us pace, skill and footwork that we're lacking and he can grow his game from there and potentially move down the track. We could also switch DWZ and Averillo in attack at times if DWZ fails to deliver the playmaking and running game we need at fullback.

Either way we have options, no reason to stick with the safe route and try and scrap our way through every game. I'd be more forgiving and willing to be patient if a few of the younger blokes with far bigger skillsets got the opportunity.

Yeah can see your point mate, I just cant believe that he's on so much. With the compensation is a steal. Just the contract he's on surprises me.

It's been 4 months since this guy got injured
We have heard nothing from the nrl, nothing from the club, the season begins in just under 8 weeks,is it to hard for the club to keep us informed,we desperately need an outside back, but all we have signed are forwards,if they are going with our local juniors fine, some form of communication, would be good don't u think, any wonder we are sitting last of 16 clubs in the membership stakes.,with communication like this is it any wonder.
There after $350k for relief. There is a massive rumour going around that Josh ado Carr is coming to the dogs next week and Adam Doueihi is going to Melbourne.

Dogs to meet NRL over cap relief for injured Foran

A showdown is looming next week between the NRL and Canterbury over the amount of salary-cap relief the club will receive for the serious shoulder injury suffered by Kieran Foran playing in an international.

As Foran told the Herald he was eyeing a sensational return as early as round 15 against South Sydney, the Bulldogs are preparing to challenge the merits of capping any payout at just $350,000.

Under the current rule, introduced in 2018, clubs can receive a maximum $350,000 for any player who breaks down in an international and is ruled out for at least 12 NRL matches.

That figure is little consolation for Canterbury given Foran stands to collect north of $1 million in the final year of his current deal.

A fairer system expected to be raised with the NRL is calculating salary-cap relief based on the percentage of a player's wage. In Foran's case, if he was earning around $1.1 million a season, or $44,000 a game, and he missed 14 games, Canterbury would be entitled to $616,000 in relief.

A financial incentive would go some of the way to easing Canterbury's pain given Foran was sidelined due to an injury playing for New Zealand at Eden Park against Great Britain.

Foran, meanwhile, remained in good spirits on Thursday as he continued his long, long road to recovery.

In some wonderful news for Dogs fans, Foran said he was determined to return by round 15 - the ANZ Stadium farewell game against Souths - or possibly round 17 after the bye against the New Zealand Warriors at Bankwest Stadium.

His first game back will be a double celebration, as he posts 200 NRL games.

When Foran broke down last November, there were fears he would miss the entire 2020 NRL campaign.

"But in my head I want to be back in the middle of the year,'' Foran said. "If I can get back around that round-15 mark, it would be nice.

"That will be just over the six-month mark from the second surgery. It's generally nine months to recover from rotator-cuff surgery.

"If you speak to most specialists, they'll tell you nine months is a safe number. But speaking to various people about it, there have been blokes who have done it in six months in the past - I think there was even a case where a bloke came back in five months.''

Foran underwent a Laterjet procedure, which involves adding bone around the shoulder socket to help prevent further dislocations, then went under the knife two weeks later to repair his rotator cuff.

The 29-year-old is renowned for having an unbelievable pain threshhold, but said the days that followed his rotator-cuff surgery were some of the sorest he had endured.

Spending up to two hours every day in the gym, Foran has dropped a couple of kilos and was relieved to finally have his left arm come out of a sling at the start of last week. He has also spent plenty of time stretching to increase his range.

"Hopefully I can actually start running in three weeks out on the paddock with the boys and get out of the gym,'' he said.

"I'm the only one left in the rehab group. I won't be stubborn about trying to get back. It's about making a calculated decision, and I'm confident I can get back out there with the boys and contribute.''

Just as they dd in 2018, Canterbury finished strongly in 2019, and it was no fluke Foran's return played a huge part in the club's turnaround.

The NRL looked at giving clubs salary-cap relief after Canberra's Josh Hodgson tore his ACL in the 2017 World Cup semi-final and missed most of the 2018 season. The Raiders received relief when they lost Jordan Rapana for the start of last season

Foran verdict will have Dogs fans barking mad

It is a situation that will have Bulldogs fans barking mad come next week.

Because two and a half months after Kieran Foran went down with a serious shoulder injury while playing Test football for New Zealand, Canterbury is finally expected to get a verdict from the NRL next week on how much money they will have taken off their salary cap for this season.

And it is likely to leave the club and their supporters feeling severely short-changed, especially when they look at how recent events have unfolded for South Sydney.

As it stands NRL policy states a maximum of $350,000 is only allowed in salary cap relief for players injured while on rep duty.

In Foran’s case that represents about one third of his reported $1.2 million annual salary, even though Foran could be sidelined for up to nine months in total.

But on the other hand the Rabbitohs are spending up big with the money they saved from having Sam Burgess’ $1 million-plus salary wiped off the salary cap following his recent medically forced retirement, and before that there was the Greg Inglis decision.

Canterbury chief executive Andrew Hill did not want to enter into the debate when contacted, but the fact of the matter is this issue needs to be discussed — and it is up to the NRL to take charge so fans don’t feel cheated.

In the past other clubs have suffered similarly with Canberra in particular receiving no salary cap relief for losing Josh Hodgson and Jordan Rapana to rep injuries in recent years, although that led to a policy change.

But even after changing the guidelines it seems ludicrous that the NRL put a $350,000 limit on this when the elite players, usually on huge salaries, are the ones involved in rep football.

Perhaps a fairer system would be if a percentage of a player’s wage was taken off the cap for every game missed, although that still doesn’t take into account time lost during pre-season which is critically important.

Meanwhile Foran is doing all he can to get back on the field ahead of schedule and is hoping he could be playing at some stage in May.

But the medical advice that has been given to the club suggests it is more likely to be between round 15 and round 20 before Foran is cleared to return.

Canterbury already has the NRL’s youngest and most inexperienced roster but this was a situation completely out of the club’s control.

In Foran’s absence they will have to rely on youngsters Lachy Lewis, Jack Cogger and Brandon Wakeham to carry the load and it just puts unfair pressure on everyone, from Hill and coach Dean Pay down.

When the verdict is handed down at least the Bulldogs should have an extra $350,000 to spend on a new player.

But it’s still small change compared to what the Rabbitohs received for losing Burgess and Inglis.

selfish ****.
How true, very funny how some of our fans keep believing that Foran will come good in the future, I had written him off half way through 2018.
Can't believe just how stupid some of our fans are.

Yep while he’s playing hero he’s keeping our young halves that need the game time off the field or playing out of position which is slowing their development and the teams. If he had any integrity he would have retired early last season
