Bulldogs fan here: big papi did well for the team that struggled. Never shied away from taking a hit up on first or send tackle, remember that tall lanky whinger Klemmer would hit up on 3rd or 4th tackle when there was momentum in the set. Klemmer was average at tackling. People in here bagging him clearly don’t watch the game closely and have no clue. Go eat a bland spaghetti bol

Dude, Klemmer makes more effective tackles than Napa. Not only that, but he averages a lot more post contact and run metres. It's clear to see Klemmer is the better forward, when you take away his hissy fit.

I don't like the spineless prick as well, but fmd the stats are there in black and white.

Napa’s work rate and effort was improving last year but he won’t be the physically dominant prop we need while ever he looks 3 months pregnant.

Assassin who would you prefer Big Papi, a soft cock T.rex or a empty ball sack, no nuts purse carrying whinging Klemmer??? Big Papi's first season in our colours was derailed x rated style last season before it even began, thanks in part to uncle Nick and his cronies, fucking tabloids!!! I think we should give our big ranga the benefit of the doubt and see how this season pans out before we start calling for the lynch mob.
I hope he pulls his finger out and justifies his price tag.

It just seems he only hits hard when it's a dirty play and gets dominated when he plays by the rules.

Personally I always thought Klemmer was a bit overrated mainly cause he walked around mean mugging but never put any big shots on... he also has one of the slowest play the balls in history which largely negate his post contact metres in my eyes...

Hopefully Thompson is not too far off and we have 2 x rangas in the front row ripping in and getting us on the front foot + RT & RFM off the bench punching through the middle.

Klemmer is a great regular season player, for the most part, but in the big games he is never the most dominate player on the field.. The Knights are paying him the type of money that I personally think you should only pay guys who can pretty much single-handedly win you the big games... guys like JWH, Lolo, Marty, and Surgess in his day

Having endured a challenging start to life at Belmore, Dylan Napa is ready to put his experience to use and start 2020 with genuine optimism for the Bulldog’s chances.

DYLAN Napa was a world away when the Roosters were defending their premiership title.

Twelve months earlier he had helped lead the Roosters to a premiership win against Melbourne.

He had no idea it would be his final game for the Tricolours.

With his new club Canterbury not making the finals, Napa was deep into his time off — holidaying in the US — when the Roosters took to the field against Canberra in the premiership decider at ANZ Stadium.
Napa was with friends crammed around a screen watching the match.
“It was just like watching a few of my mates play a footy game. I was happy for the Roosters guys to win it as I have a lot of friends in that team.”

Napa was Canterbury’s major recruit in the 2018 off-season. He arrived as a direct replacement for Newcastle-bound David Klemmer, but the transition was far from smooth given Canterbury’s poor start to the year.

He won just two of his opening 10 games as a Bulldog.

After the first month of football, the games we were losing we weren’t losing by much,” said Napa, 27. “We knew we were there and we just had to win those games late. That’s what we ended up doing. As a group we started playing our best towards the end of the year.

“This pre-season we know what we’re capable of doing
Napa said he was “far more settled” as a Bulldog this time around. The last off-season was a blur for the Queensland prop who had to deal with a high-profile club switch and also unwanted media attention.

Napa knows he is a leader among a developing Bulldogs roster.

“I play in the front-row, I usually have to do some sort of leadership in the game,” he said.

He said that having been around the club for a year and “being familiar with the faces, just being a bit tighter with the group” had greatly helped. “Hopefully I can have a more consistent year as a player and us as a team.
I stopped reading after he said "the first month we weren't losing by much"
Warriors and Parra romped us lol

Yes Klemmer made a lot of metres including post contact but offered zilch apart from that. No offload, no late footwork and let's not forget the sloth like play the balls. We also rarely saw him aim up in defence. I also felt, like Tolman, Klemmer often got in the way in the attacking red zone and he was too worried about boosting his stats than scoring points. It was a gradual decline in effectiveness since that Good Friday game in my opinion.

Yes we miss his presence and metres but surely don't miss his price tag and drama. Napa has done what was asked of him, now it's time to show up and show his worth this year

Well, not quite a rockstar fullback, but Napa is a porn star prop. an absurd signing at the time and a greatly exaggerated hope in 2020.
I want Lewis AND ALDO in the backs. We can source our own forwards without relying on Eastern suburbs souffle

I wanna see him as an impact front rower and not a starter. Ideally would like to always have at least one 'enforcer` style prop on at all times.

I just feel he doesn't have the motor to be a long minutes prop and therefore reduce his minutes and have him come on and belt a tired defence.

Round 7, 2016 Napa smashed the entire Bunnys pack apart single handedly. That game even got him a perfect 10 in Rugby League Week, but he's never been able to replicate it or come close to be honest. If you're hanging your season on him producing you'll be disappointed.

as long as he does what is asked of him I don't think we can complain.. he is playing a completely different role now.. I still believe we will see his true value when the team gets better and we start playing in bigger matches... those are the games where a guy who can change the momentum with a single hit can be very handy to have in your squad.. especially in the modern game where so many of the big men in our game are quite placid compare to those that went before them.. the gf is a good example.. JWH made the Raiders pack his bitch and then the Roosters got out to a lead in which they were never going to be pegged back.. they could have done with somebody making a statement for sure.. but nothing

JWH just physically dominated his opponent, Napa was just a reckless defender that could pull off a spectacular hit legally or illegally. All he needs to do is drop some weight, get fit and stay disciplined...maybe look to use his short pass and late footwork some more.

I don't think anyone's thinking that way - more that he just has the hunger - wants to have a big year, hold his discipline, get his Origin jersey back etc. As long as he's making some sort of impact that's what his role is.

Yea I know... but like I said.. Raiders could have done with a Napa type to make a statement.. there was no way they were winning that game once the Roosters were on top, instead JWH had free rein to do as he pleased.. You have to have mongrels in your team to be successful and Dylan is the biggest mongrel of all

Cant say I agree with that Howard. Klemmer dominates the middle at origin and test level regularly. I’d still consider him one of the best props in the game, with only Payne Haas ahead of him in my books.

We missed his yardage majorly last year, especially with Napa having not yet adapted his game in the first half of the season.

It helped our cause in the final 8-10 games of the year when Napa put the shoulder charge in the kit bag and utilised his energy in a more disciplined and beneficial manner. Played bigger minutes and put together a number of 200m+ games in the Klemmer-mould.

Yea I get what you're saying, but they are paying Klemmer to be that player who will pretty much single-handedly carry them into the back end of the finals.. they ended up on the same points as us after carrying on about his signature all through the pre season.. he has been to two grand finals and been outmuscled by his opponent in each... I just think that it's too much out of the cap for a guy who is not dominating in the big games (Origin not included obv)

he would have put a shot on.. sometimes that's all that is required to send a message... you can't just have one player bullying your entire pack.. it's only downhill from there
