If the article is true and all it will take is Lewis for Carr then you’d be mad not to go for it. Fair enough we are light in the halves. But in saying that people are making it out like we are swapping Thurston for JAC.

At the end of the day I don’t think Carr will be as effective at the dogs with our lack of game plan or halves ability (big reason for that ironically is Lewis).

I honestly think he will go Souths for gayguy. Simple swap. Salary matches better. Similar position (a winger leaves Souths and a winger comes in) Souths might complete the trifecta of signings with Mitchell and arrow.

But going back to the original article. If Lewis for carr is available you’d be silly not to take it. We have seen the best of Lewis. Guy lacks basic half skills. He is a positionless player. Might be a decent lock based on his height. Lacks speed and agility for the backline. Lacks vision, passing, kicking for the halves. He is honestly a less talented Anasta. Big bodied player that is put in the halves.

I don’t know what we will do long term with our halves. Lewis isn’t the answer. For mine cogger (not a great player either) but has the basics for a halfback. Can kick, pass, run. Has a little show and go. Ducks under tackles. He honestly reminds me of Mitch Healey in the way he moves and plays. Never going to be a rep player or best on ground in a final. But outside of a dominant half he will do his job.

The only advantage of Lewis is he is a lockdown front on defender. But who ever selects a half because he is a defender. Hooker yes, prop I have seen, lock ok. You can pick them on the defence. But a spine position? We are making a huge mistake for thinking he is a long term solution. Fair enough for this year he will have a role with no Foran. But if our club and coach thinks he will lead us to a premiership gives me lack of confidence in their ability.
You think we've seen the best of Lewis considering his time in 1st grade he has not had a consistent halves partner for more than probably a month of back to back games. Plus the fact he's in his early 20's and player what 30 odd games?
I agree saying he's the future of the club is a bit rich, but if anything from Sherwin rubs off on him and we can get him a decent/solid halves partner and us a club can play some consistent footy who knows. If JAC comes great, can we get him now and further years or next year while keeping Lewis who's only taking up what 150k or so of the cap, for a starting half not bad.
If Lewis does get traded for JAC so be it, but I think we should offer something else to be honest.

Lewis still has the exact same deficiencies in his game he had coming through the grades as a kid. Shifty isn't going ot be this magic fix, Lewis just doesn't have it as a ball runner/player and there's only so much more improvement you can get.

That's cool, we have different opinions on this, didn't see that coming mate haha.
Either way whatever happens hopefully we get it right.

I'm not sure how many of you have made the next step in any of the sporting arenas, but juniors coming through often get specialised coaching once they hit the next step in their careers. Which is very standard, and in fact it does work. Why do you think the likes of Cronk for example go to AFL for kicking, or to Shirvo for running, wrestling for tackling etc. This shit does work.

Not saying its going to work but it definitely helps.

Can tell you first hand, if they put in the time the results will come. If they don't, well they end up on the sidelines.

Personally I haven’t seen anything to suggest Lewis can organise a team. So could he become a strong running 5/8th? Certainly has the size but he doesn’t take the line on either so...

I think with time Wakeham will be the organiser. Lewis can do when the likes of Tolman/Senior players move on and these guys can run the team with confidence. But time will tell.

Like I said before God save us if a guy with NO running game, NO passing game and next to NO kicking game is the FUTURE of our club. LOL.
Go watch the last 8 games where he saved many tries by his tackles including jams sorbets , set up heaps of tires towards end of year/ you’re a muppet if you think he isn’t good.

Lewis is the heart and soul of the team. I'm not surprised Bellamy can see that. The answer should be NO.

I've said numerous times before he needs to model his game on Sutton. Sadly I don't think he has it in him to take the line on as hard as Sutton does...

If Lewis was at another club and you had the opportunity to take either him or Addo Carr - who would you sign?

Lewis is an outstanding defender n competitor - on the field I believe he lifts his teammates performance through his "effort" but in attack he is limited.

Addo Carr has what the dogs need in the modern game - speed!.

I'll leave the name calling to you, not really my style.

I watched him at the end of the year and I know I can tackle. I saw him get some try assists too.

His running game still stinks as does his passing game.

If Foran was fit and firing I wouldn’t think twice but we are already starting the season without our marquee half. It’s not like there are other decent halves on the market. We need to be smart

Just say fuck it and go

6. Averillo
7. Wakeham

Or say fuck it some more and play Stimson or Jackson at 6 if we're so worried about defence lol

If Pay can get this team producing more points and get is structurally sound defensively then I'd be far more patient and willing to get behind him.

I still think it leaves us light on when injuries strike and has there ever been a halves combination with 3 combined first grade games?
