We need to save money, just because there's money doesn't mean blow it on all this shit, the country needs stability.
The bitch buys china/Korean trains, wheres our jobs there?
And apparently those trains are the worst in the world for brakedowns? Yep their own trams that we bought were shit to start with and we thought we would have some shit ones as well! maybe some South Korean holidays were available cheap.

Yeah new is always nice just don't like how everything the Government buys blows out, trams, trains, tunnels and stadiums have all been a disaster.
Make em stick to the contract.
I think when its a mega project like these and you get variations thrown at you its like a redrag at a bull, not much difference anywhere in the building trade, variations are the cream on top.

Seems the NSW Gov lied when they pitched the stadium to the proposed tennants.

Sydney FC are very unhappy. Roosters & Waratahs not so impressed either. Not getting what they were promised.

Stadium tenant hits out as Sports Minister confirms government won't pay for 'curtain'

The budget for the Sydney Football Stadium has increased to $828 million.CREDIT:NSW GOVERNMENT

Told of the government's position, Sydney FC chief executive Danny Townsend said the A-League football club would not have supported the stadium rebuild had the club known the two-mode function to accommodate smaller crowds would not be a feature of the new stadium in Sydney's eastern suburbs.

"Rebuilding a stadium of very similar size, with no different configuration would not have been something that we would have supported," he said. "We supported a project that had a two-mode system, that's what was sold to us, that's what got us really behind it and got us really excited about what our future home looked like."

During preliminary stages of stadium planning, tenants were told there would be funding for an LED curtain which would enable the top tier of the stadium to be closed off during events that attracted smaller crowds. The new stadium will hold 45,000 spectators, with Sydney FC games averaging about 15,000.

The government did not include funding for the curtain in the stadium's final budget, which it announced this month had blown out by $99m.

Mr Townsend said it sounded as if the government had "moved on" from the curtain, which was "the single most important thing" for Sydney FC when agreeing to the rebuild.

"I can't put it more clearly than that," Mr Townsend said. "We were confident that the government and the [SCG] Trust would deliver on that. At the end of the day, it's their facility, they own it, we're a tenant and we pay rent, that's how it works and we would like it to be the best possible experience for our fans once it opens.

"We've been led to believe all along that it was always part of the plan and may not have been funded in this first envelope, but there was a commitment to finding a solution."

At the unveiling of a $50.5 million taxpayer funded upgrade to the Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre, Dr Lee told the Herald the disagreement between the tenants over the curtain was just "one of the issues" the government needed to "work through" before the stadium was built.

"At the moment, we've set the budget, we have been a very upfront to the public, it includes all the contingencies, so all we know is we have to deliver it by 2022," he said.

Dr Lee also said the reason why the curtain was originally included in the budget and then taken out was simply "a matter of costs". He said he could consider a commercial partnership to make the curtain a possibility.

"What people will see is a world-class stadium for world-class events," he said. "Let's see and we will wait and see how things go."

The stadium's other major tenants are Super Rugby team NSW Waratahs and NRL premiers Sydney Roosters.

Sydney FC chief executive Danny Townsend said the curtain was the number one top priority for the rebuild.

A spokesman for NSW Rugby Union said this month that NSW Rugby "made the inclusion of a curtain within the stadium’s top tier a priority".

Sydney Roosters chief executive Joe Kelly said in December the LED curtain "was a key feature to the original design of the stadium that we supported".

The conspiracy theorist in me wouldn't be surprised if the stadium rebuild was scrapped in favour of selling the land to highrise developers. The attack on the Greyhound industry was supposed to be about opening up some land for property developers. So it wouldn't surprise if there is dirty money being thrown at influential politicians to maximize money making opportunity for some rich developers.

You mean like this plan by Gerry Harvey and consortium back in 2017 that lead to Sports Minister Stuart Ayers being stripped of his powers?

Or Gerry Jerry and Consortium going for take 2 last Nov.

A blessing in disguise if u asked me,maybe now, they will prioritise ANZ,and allow funding for the suburban grounds, which is what most clubs wanted anyway, and all the facilities that go with it,can be used by everyone, including schools, junior clubs etc etc

Gerry Harvey is a scumbag of the highest order. Ever since hearing about him saying "you don't feed the pigs strawberries" in reference to not giving poor people good deals I've boycotted his stores. I really hope that his investment plans here are blocked and he and his consortium lose big money on it all. From those articles it sounds like they're confident they'll make a killing on the deal.

Still cannot understand how a 30 year old modern stadium with its great history was completely demolished.

Having met the man through a side business he runs, I find it hard to disagree with those sentiments.

Isn’t that the Rorters way? Something/someone with significant issues gets tossed aside for a new one?

So it has taken about 2 years from going from a hole in the ground to.... a hole in the ground that is going to cost $100m more?

That's a very pessimistic view, suggest you have look at the site, it's around 8 stories high (out of the ground) on the 2 sides and 6 stories high (out of the ground) on the end. As is common with reinforced concrete construction the lift wells are at full height, which from memory are 14 stories high. There is no "hole" anymore.

LOL. The old stadium closed in October 2018. If you think that this effort by February 2021 is progress...

I don't now how much demolition and medium rise stadium building you have been involved in but the scheduled 3.5 years for an SOA 45,000 seater is a not slow by any means. As usual with most building projects, the majority of the early time is consumed below ground level (ie; it doesn't look like much has been done), but once the foundations are complete and the lift towers are up the rest flows pretty quickly. Pure guess of course, but based on the current status reports completion by the start of the 2022 NRL season is more than likely.

I will be very surprised if the stadium sees any NRL action in 2022. It's not currently scheduled to be be completed until October 2022. The real target will be the 2023 Women's World Cup.

I'm still irritated this was prioritised over Homebush, before ultimately they cancelled Homebush. Either do the new stadium at 80,000 or do up Homebush first.
