Not a terrible idea. They carried out research at Yale that found that we could counteract the last 10 years of CO2 by planting around 1 trillion trees. Problem is that after planting 1 trillion trees we pretty much run out of space and with growing populations and more CO2 going into the atmosphere every day, in less than 10 years we'll be worse than we are now.

Mitigation works better. Stop the CO2 from going out there in the first place. Or capture it and put it back in the ground. Unfortunately any solution is rather expensive.
maybe not literally go out and plant trees lol but you know what I mean... if people are so concerned, they could put the smart phone down for a minute or two and do something beneficial for the environment rather than arguing on social media / forums

Nah she didn't. She posted a photo of her sitting on the ground on the train, the train company took offence to this and said that she rode first class, she then showed her ticket showing she wasn't riding first class but got a seat eventually. She also said that she didn't know why the train company was upset as overpacked trains is a good thing.

Edit: Scratch that. Mixed reports. What actually happened was that she was sitting on the floor and staff offered her a free first class upgrade. This was 4 hours into her journey that they offered the first class upgrade.

Doesn't stop people from doing whatever they can to attack her. The other entertaining one going around is a fake news site saying that she's actually 27 and people believe it.

Why is travelling first class by train somehow a big deal? There are some serious straw-clutchers out there.

Adults: Young people of today never take an interest in anything. Bunch of slackers.
Also adults: She shouldn't have an opinion! She should be in school!

The train story is silly I agree.

The bigger story was when she said she was travelling 'clean' so she took a yacht across the Atlantic. The only problem was that something like 4 crew members had to be flown over to NY so they could sail the yacht back.

LOL

But to be serious - of course there is something to say for young people taking an interest and trying to do something they perceive to be honourable and 'making a difference'.

I think the problem comes when you are then used as a political shield so that no one can argue with your ideology because you are the holy trinity of progressive politics (female, mentally a bit weird and a believer in climate change).

If anyone thinks that a 16 year old has suddenly formed their own opinion on a subject as complex as climate change, then they will want their heads read. Greta is clearly a victim of teachers and/or her parents who have only offered one side of the argument, and her mental conditions mean that she's become fixated on it.

I laughed at the whole flying the yacht crew over too, but in their defence they did offset it by donating money toward carbon offset programs which neutralises the CO2 used. Would have been easier just to offset her flights though.

I believe that she did become passionate about it, but it was then encouraged by her parents and others. That's not a bad thing, encouraging kids to follow their passion. But there is obviously some marketing that has taken place as well.

But you have to also look what it's against. Fossil fuel companies have paid literally millions of dollars to create misinformation and solidify climate denial. So is it so bad if they fight this with a little marketing prowess?
