A wise man once said to me "there is no such thing as a friend"
In my earlier days I thought this guy is a little bitter as I have heaps of what I thought to be friends. But he added to his comment, people only act to be a friend because there is something in it for them. Most of the time what you think is a friend is worse than your enemy. At least an enemy keeps their distance where a friend damages from inside in a position of trust.
He went on to say you only know someone's true colours is when you have nothing to offer and need help. See how many of them are too busy at that point.
I have not needed too much help so I wouldn't really know but I'm sure the wise old man makes plenty of sense.
How many friends do you really have? Are they real friends that would give you the shirt on their back, risk injury to keep you safe, genuinely want to see you get ahead, even ahead of them. If there was money between you would they share it? Do they ever say a bad word behind your back or judge you? If they considered moving house would they consider you to be in close proximity or bugger you?
How many friends in your life come and go? They might still be friendly if you happened to see them but are they real friends that make an effort?
Of course people are polite but is it because they need something from you or does a real friend actually exist.
