480F1142-EF4C-45B5-8980-F8977EA8AA0D.jpeg There will be no rebel ticket jockeying for votes at the ballot box, with only four independents to contest what will likely be only one available spot on the seven-member board. The result is a show of confidence in chair Lynne Anderson and her directors, who swept to power at the last poll when they unseated the Ray Dib-led board.

Two of the four independent nominees - Peter McMahon and Anthony Elias - had previously sat on the board when Dib was chairman. Dib himself chose not to contest the elections.
The other two candidates are Nicholas Dimas and Anthony Elias.
The incumbent board consists of John Ballesty, Paul Dunn, Steve Mortimer, John Khoury, Joe Thomas and Peter Mortimer, with Steve Mortimer indicating he will come off early in the new year. If the incumbents retain their seats, the four new battle it out for Mortimer’s vacant spot.

The previous election resulted in months of adverse headlines as 19 candidates attempted to wrest control of the ‘family club’. However, it appears there will be a period of relative stability at Belmore ahead of the annual general meeting on February 9.

With coach Dean Pay re-signed and the Anderson directors to hold majority regardless of the result of the vote, Canterbury is poised for two more years of relative political stability.

Back to Belmore patron Luke Brailey chose not to contest this election after being a candidate in the last one. A spokesperson for the organisation said they will consider writing to members this month to endorse candidates.

“Bulldogs Chair Lynne Anderson and the board she leads have started to produce the necessary remedies to get the relationship between the football club and Back to Belmore in a position far better than it has ever been since our inception in 2005,” the spokesperson said.

“The NSW Government has committed $2 billion to upgrading sporting venues in Sydney and the executive committee rightly expects to see a new business case for Belmore Sports Ground in the next 24 months, but we finally have a Bulldogs board that works in unison

with Back to Belmore and treats the organisation as a partner rather than an obstacle.”

The Bulldogs have re-signed a number of their most promising off-contract players, although not all of them are in a position to enjoy a full preseason. Captain Josh Jackson (groin) and hooker Jeremy Marshall-Smith (shoulder) are out for eight weeks after undergoing minor surgeries. Playmaker Kieran Foran remains intent on a comeback despite his latest setback, a serious shoulder injury that could make him the first player to miss an entire season after suffering the injury in a Test match.

The media will be spewing they could have milked this story up until the election with club in crisis stories if a rival ticket put their hand up!

I would hope that none of the directors of the previous board were returned.
That's nothing to do with factions etc - the bottom line for me is that they were the office holders when this huge mess was created.
Regardless of who specifically was responsible for the back-ended contracts, ratchet clauses and the resulting mess of the cap - the very job of a director (especially non executive directors) is oversight - a fresh set of eyes - a case of 'why is this happening?'
They were asleep at the wheel and utterly failed to create an adequate smell test that may have otherwise flushed out the thunderstorm that turned into a Category 5 for the club.
I'd hope the members whilst looking forward and accepting that what's done is done, do not reward the mistakes of the past.

Great news, though never in doubt.

Congratulations to Lynne and her team. They’ve laid a fantastic platform to be built upon in the coming years.

It would be totally backwards to move the board on and start "fresh" again so soon with no real evidence that they have failed. This next term should confirm if the direction we are headed is right for the club. Our future though, should be a fluid plan that can change and adapt where needed. Maybe next year we make the finals and become more attractive for sponsors and quality players both from inside and outside our system wanting to be involved with the club.

On the flip side if the coming season does not at least see us making the eight (with the roster we have), and we continue to struggle attracting sponsors or talent, hopefully the board has the gumption to make changes/adjustments to its plan/personnel.

Are there any mover and shakers on this board with 3rd party contacts?

This seems a weird time to get surgery unless they both got injured during pre-season training. You’d think they would have gotten it taken care of as soon as the season finished.

Players association make sure any surgery is done after players take their holidays unless it’s urgent

Jackson was previously at training so I assume he got the injury recently.

15 years since our last premiership!
15 years since our last premiership!!
15 years since our last premiership!!!

Churchill said "when you are going through hell, keep going".

I know a lot of people want to be positive but for me I feel the club is treading water.

But agree give this board another two years.

haha its like they dont even try sometimes, or they see what they can get away with
then again, according to some on the kennel JMK is a machine of a hooker, perhaps the best in the world.. So maybe the name is warranted!
