[QUOTis common sense
we all know it doesn't exist in the NRLE="Kelpie03, post: 3648625, member: 23818"]November 1 st is here, and Foran is now allowed to negotiate a contract for 2021. We should ask him to test the market and see what offers there are out there for him in 2021.
If there is none then the NRL must see that he can no longer continue to play and unless they are determined to harm our club they must give our club full cap dispensation.
If Foran is unable to negotiate a contract for 2021 it will prove just how selfish he is by not retiring.[/QUOTE]

Teams need a marquee player to win the comp and you can't buy one with 350k.
The guy who came up with the idea of capping the relief fund to 350k needs to have his car taken from him and replaced with a bicycle and see if he can get to his destination with the lesser value..

Trouble is no one cares until it's your club affected. Trust us to be the club most severely hampered *sigh*

You're completely right but as usual and with every other rule throughout the last twenty years, we'll be the test case and worst case scenario...

So it will still apply to us, no exceptions will be made but it will be changed immediately after so that every other club can be properly compensated in the future. In the meantime we'll be stuck with Foran's rotting carcass eating up 10-15% of our salary cap.
100% mate 15 other teams to benefit from the changes going forward after we get our max $350k

Half was still way too much! Look at the lack of action with Fifita, Asofa-Solomona etc. Where are their 250k, 125k or 50k fines?
Not disagreeing but being a club sanctioned function with the coach and other officials present was likely seen was worse than a player on holidays on their own time.

Not excusing what the blokes in Bali did - and there are sanctions - but I think that’s the NRL’s view - club vs individual.

Retired or not he is gone for the year. Nrl should allow us to sign someone else with his cap money and he can sign somewhere else since it’s his last year next year. Nrl is one fucked up franchise that has no idea how to run the game

Not that we have many players knocking on Rep's door but the club should come out and say that we are no longer allowing our players to play Rep football until the rule is changed! Take a stance.

what most people seem to be missing here is the main point, its not about cap relief, its about buying a big risk, a big risk that we lost on

bulldogs signed foran knowing he was broken, with serious injuries, bulldogs really have no recall as they bought a player knowing full well he was busted

We do ... it happened while playing for NZ and not us.

We're only allowed to have 350k allowance just like every club. Unless Foran retires we're not getting anymore. Why would the NRL change the rules for us? As of yesterday Foran has come out and said "giving up is not an option". I feel for Foran because of what he could be/could of been without being injury prone. I have nothing against him for not medically retiring. The only people to blame are the people who put him on that contract. Also you can't prevent players from representing their country under any circumstances. It isn't right.

It needs to be set on a % of the players salary, pro rated to the number of games missed! This takes into account the real loss of a valuable player compared to a nuffy. If we lost JMK (No offense) we still max $350k? There is no comparison.

Management probably knew, just like us fans all knew, that he would most likely be injured and it was our only hope of recouping something off signing the guy.

It shows you how far behind the NRL is compared to other sports. All they have to do is take use the injured reserve list like the NFL do. It allows you to remove players from your roster and cap that have long term injuries. There is no stupid rules or grey areas.

Although it would be fair for the NRL to give the Dogs "full" cap relief for the full 2020 season (1.2M) they will probably think it would set a dangerous precedent. Clubs would then start arguing for cap relief for any long term injury to any player (eg: a few months). Hopefully they may consider this different though since he's out long term before the comp even kicks off.

Maybe we could sign an agreement that Foran definitely won't play for the club even if he recovers towards the end of the season.

Agree but also think it needs to take into account the preseason too. Not just games missed. If the player is available for round 1 but hasn't been able to train all pre-season it should also count, but maybe not as much as a game. I think the full value of the yearly contract should be the cap for the most expensive player in the team and/or the player that is given the marque allowance. if we want to keep the cap at 350K for the other players so be it. But when a club loses their most expensive player for the whole season because of a representative game its not good enough to say ok here is 350k to replace your best and/or most experienced player.

Sounds good to me, to have an expensive player ruled out for the year not even playing for his club with little compensation is totally unfair to the dogs. Changes are needed for sure. I just wonder if Greenturd has the brains to relise.
