Canterbury Bulldogs coach Dean Pay is ready to place his trust in the young brigade of playmakers to fill the void left by injured veteran Kieran Foran next season.

The club's worst fears were realised on Wednesday when Foran was ruled out for next season after he injured his shoulder playing for the Kiwis against Great Britain.
Just four minutes into his return to the Test arena, having only played once for the Kiwis since 2015, the 29-year-old was withdrawn from the field with a dislocated shoulder.

And after going under the knife this week, the Bulldogs confirmed the damage was worse than first thought, meaning he'll be sidelined for up to a year.

I'm sure he said the same thing earlier this year too.

Hopefully Pay uses the right halves and isn't stubborn about sticking with certain players. He needs to use the off season and trials wisely.

Can’t do anything but, so we going to have to suck it up, have faith and see how we go in 2020. Bring it on, let the fun begin :grinning:

I think this could be a blessing in disguise. Foran out young guys get the gig with confidence that if they perform they stay.

Hopefully foran retires but stays on in the club in some capacity. .

So does this mean he will or won't try and play Wakeham at hooker again?

Jokes aside, if Lewis and/or Cogger struggle with the responsibility and neither improve then hopefully Wakeham and Averillo are given several games to see what they can do.

Isn't that what we've been doing this whole time Foran has been with us? Filling in while he's always injured....

Exactly, Foran only contribution for all the money he was paid, was to hinder the development of the other young halves at the club or tying up money which would have enabled us to sign full-time players.

Trials? What is this trials you speak of under Pay?

Cogger improved this year and Wakeham is a little maestro... I would have Lewis doing mostly work on his attack in the pre-season because he is hands down one of the best defenders in the comp

I’ll be interested to see if Pay keeps a utility on the bench and if Wakeham is considered for that position.

Dan ginane reported on fox sports that the dogs will push for more than the allotted 350k compensation.
He had a segment at 11pm called the early lead and he reported the dogs will go to the nrl and seek more than 350k as Foran is a 1mill plus player. It’s impossible and completely unfair to place a 350k limit to replace a mill dollar playmaker.

And how successful has 2 inexperienced halves worked out for us or any other club lately.
The guys got no idea
Just like he kept chopping and changing teams week in week out
How toomaga didn’t get a go from round 1 and the rfm and Rhys martin Fcuk around.
