The Bulldogs have continued to lock down members of their current squad with impressive winger/centre Reimis Smith signing a contract extension keeping him at Belmore until the end of the 2021 season.

Smith has proven to be one of the most talented outside backs in the NRL, playing in 23 matches for the blue and whites in 2019.

The 22 year-olds' finishing ability has been a major positive, resulting in 12 tries last season.

He was also able to show blazing speed in the open field and this resulted in selection for New Zealand in the recent World Nines tournament.

Head Coach Dean Pay was pleased that Smith had chosen to extend his time at Belmore :

"Reimis is a great young talent and he gives us options in the backline as he is able to play both wing and centre.

He has shown an ability to score tries and be a great finisher, but we have also been pleased with the overall development of his game in the past two years.

We are all about building for the future and having Reimis be part of that is exciting for everyone involved at the club."

Great news. Hope he looks to get more involved next season. Strange it’s only a 1 year extension but I’ll take it

Great news only wish we locked him in a bit longer. He’s got all the talent to be a top line outside back he just needs to get involved more.

Has a lot of potential. He didn't have the best season last year (nor did the majority of our players, especially at the start of the year). Signing a short extension will allow him to renegotiate more money with us while not being under contract which he deserves if he's playing well.

Great news. Just a short extension - should keep him on his toes.

I understand they're trying to keep flexibility for 2022 but an extra year wouldn't have gone astray. Still it's better than letting him hit the market...

Hopefully Reimis goes to another level next year because he didn't really improve last season.

Great news. Bit surprised his manager agreed to 1 year only though. So far he's one of our only young ones that's shown genuine talent in FG and I thought he would be pretty marketable.

How do you know the club wanted 1yr and not Reimis?
Maybe Reimis chose to extend for 1yr only to see if the club improves and if they don't, he might choose to explore his options elsewhere.

So why wasn't all this done pre-Nov 1 and then focus this time on recruiting?

I agree he needs to get more involved, but we could try and get him some decent ball every once and a while.

Happy anyway, up the Dogs!!!
