Nothing to gain? So freeing up $1.2m this season if NRL approve medical retirement - AND lets remember that MRI scan results wont be known till Friday - is of no benefit? SO you dont think if we CAN medically retire him that we could then have a tilt at Cronulla to release Moylan or Johnson to us for next season to help their cap problem? Or front end some other players to free up more cap space for next year?

If he needs a total shoulder reconstruction its a new injury and he should be medically retired...taking into account his health and history of injuries.
Sounds good in theory but the chances of us getting him medically retired and furthermore poaching someone like Johnson for next season as mentioned, is even slimmer than us getting 15+ games out of Foran next year.

Cutting him loose at this point sends the wrong message. It tells players and staff that they will get a raw deal with us.
Come on we gave the guy millions and stuck with him as the key player, who over 2 years played about half a season each year. Nobody in their right mind would think we did him wrong.

If he wants to play on and no qualified medic says he can't, I would think we did him wrong if he was cut loose.

If he gains medical clearance to continue playing, as he desires, perhaps CCup is the place for him?
Communicate that to him as well, so he knows he can leave the field as a rep player, or a park player.

No.

What’s the point of retiring him now with 1 year on his contract? Even if we did get cap dispensation through a medical retirement, it’s too late now to find any sort of quality replacement.

It’s a signing that should never have happened in the first place but at this point we’re stuck with him.

Let’s get him right for round 1 and pray to god he can stay on the field for at least 75% of the season. If we can get some decent footy out of him then we’re a big chance of playing finals footy.
What's the point? Just a lazy million becomes available within our cap, that's not useful at all is it?

Who are you gonna be able to recruit between now and Round 1 to justify having it at our disposal?

We don't have to recruit anyone. Put the coin towards contract extensions and make it easier to recruit in future seasons.

We’re talking about cap $ for 2020.

Money for extensions for 2021 and beyond is already available and is a separate matter entirely.

What are you going to do that’s useful with 1.2mil applicable to 2020 salary cap from a Foran retirement?

I am talking about 2020. That extra mill gets reinvested into new contracts for the likes of DWZ, Jackson, etc. Front load their contracts with the cash in 2020 and free up space for future seasons.

He plays half his games and you'd have a problem dropping him?
He is contracted. If he wants to play on and no medic says he should retire for medical reasons, than the whole debate is beside the point, he remains in the squad even if he misses half the season due to reconstruction. I don't like the prospect of him missing the first half of the season, but at the same time it would give Lewis and Cogger an opportunity to see if they can improve their games.

Imagine being 28 and you can't even lift your child above your head cause your body is so busted from injuries. Foz looks like a cripple when he's fit, imagine what he's like after game day (when he's played).

For his own health - even if he decides to 'play on' he shouldn't be played again. Just tell him he's done @ the club and he can be our halves coach.

If he doesn't like it he can move to another club to continue playing.

Ok so simple question, Should Foran retire whether it's medically or just himself calling it a day ASAP?

We all know that he doesn't have to etc etc but let's see the stats on this.

Doesn't it have to be a "medical retirement" to clear up the cap space?

We won’t replace him with the exact same type of player but having over a million freed up in the cap would be a massive bonus. I don’t agree at all that we couldn’t improve the squad with that money between now and the start of the season.

We will be using the young halves regardless if Foran is here or not and having him come in and out of the team is more of a distraction then anything.

It’s all a moot point anyway because all signs point to him staying around.
ALso, who's to say we couldn't pick up a disgruntled player/player who didn't work out, from another team mid-season, like how we got DWZ? But for that to happen, we need the cap space, which is why it would be worth moving him on if we could. There's loyalty, and there's being a sucker. We've moved into sucker territory with Foran...

Even if he only plays say 12 games the other games our young halves gain experience in the top grade maybe wakeham kills it and by next season we have some awesome young halves it could work out ok

He’s already missing 12 games now as he’s having a reconstruction.....
