Kieran Foran could be the third high profile player whose career may be ended by a shoulder injury in the space of a week after his Kiwi return turned into a horror show.

There are serious concerns for Foran’s playing future after he lasted just five minutes in his Kiwi comeback yesterday with his shoulder dislocating as he tried to make a tackle on Great Britain captain James Graham. Foran made a low tackle on Graham only to instantly clutch at his shoulder during the Kiwis 12-8 win.

His injury comes a day after Great Britain coach Wayne Bennett called on the NRL to investigate the spate of shoulder injuries which have led to players careers ending prematurely. Brisbane’s Matt Gillett and South Sydney enforcer Sam Burgess retired last week because of chronic issues.

Kiwis coach Michael Maguire said he was “shattered” for Foran.

“He is one hell of a fella, he put himself back in this arena,” Maguire said. “We will get around Kieran. No doubt he will get back to work and do what he does best which is get himself right.

“He was in in really good shape for this game. We were really excited for him as a group. To see him go down was devastating. We will look after him.”

Foran had his left shoulder reconstruction in 2016 while at the Eels. The injury plagued him for a good 12 months. Now he faces a nervous wait to see if he will need that shoulder operated on again. If he does, there are huge question marks if he will be able to return to play, with his body badly damaged after more than a decade in the top grade.

He is in the final year of a mega $1.2 million dollar contract with the Bulldogs that expires next year. At 29 and with his best football way behind him, Foran could be forced to medically call it quits. He is standard on 199 top grade games having returned to decent football at the back end of the season for Canterbury despite missing a large chunk of the season with a hamstring injury.

His Test return came after he was a replacement for Shaun Johnson who was axed after the Kiwis loss to Australia. Johnson helped comfort Foran in the Kiwis sheds after the injury. Foran returned to the interchange bench with his arm in a sling. The scores were locked at 2-all at halftime before Jamayne Isaako broke the deadline after some Roger Tuivasa-Sheck brilliance in the 48th minute.

After rising to prominence at the Sea Eagles, Foran has struggled with injuries and off-field issues. His high profile move to Parramatta was a fizzer while he struggled at the Warriors.

That did not stop the Bulldogs gifting him one of the richest deals in the NRL ahead of last season where he played just 12 games.

Meanwhile, Kiwis coach Michael Maguire dumped hooker Brandon Smith for breaching team protocol. The decision meant Kodi Nikorima was rushed into the side, flying back from holidays on Friday.

Fucking spewing, imagine if we had the extra mill to spend right now ffs. Hard to feel bad for him, never wanted him at the club and all he has done during his time here is reaffirm my thoughts on him.

Completely selfish of him to play that match considering how much we've paid him and how little footy he has played, also very weak and amateurish from the club to allow him to do so.

Hopefully we luck out and he finally calls it quits over the next few weeks and we find something to medically retired him. The club will be so much better off without him on our books.

Having him call if quits and getting the medical retirement would be the best out come for us.

The worst out come will be him trying to rehab it and then it will be a on going problem for the whole of next year.

The club really has to put their foot down on this and do as much as they can to convince him to pull the pin.

Even if the shoulder is somehow good it won't be long till its something else and we just can't be wasting that much cap.

If a medical retirement isn't possible the club have to hold the NRL's feet to the fire and get a deal done where we get cap relief like other clubs have received.

No doubt that's what will happen. Bloke will "tough" it out all season and play fuck all footy and then probably call it quits at the end of his contract. We've then invested how many millions for about 30 games of footy over 3 years? Wow. Yet people wonder why some of us don't want to commit millions to another high risk player in Latrell lol.

Even if he requires a full reconstruction and lets say that is 6 months that means he is back by Round 8 without any pre-season and the shoulder could probably pop out again straight away.

Out of rehab, reco or retirement I think retirement is the least likely outcome unfortunately.

Mate, that is a ridiculous assessment. Why even play if you are going to be in constant fear of being injured? Foran gets injured and he comes back out full intensity, nothing less.

People seem to forget that Foran is a massive influence on our young halves, and the fact is that when he does play, we win. I don't think he will get a medical retirement for this because he has had this issue before.

A lot of people on here are too harsh on Foran. They need to take the situation from Foran's perspective as well... he really cares about what he does. I don't believe Foran playing for NZ was being selfish... no point in being scared about being injured, you won't get anywhere if you are in constant fear.

Nothing personal I like the guy but he needs to go. We can't keep having him broken all the time and in and out of games. It will mess with our structure come next season.

Hopefully someone can talk sense to him about retiring and we can medically retire him. At the moment with Burgess, Gillett, Matulino all getting medical retirements we should strike while the iron is hot he may get cleared for it.

No, you can't blame him for that. Everything that was in his control, he did it the way we wanted him to. If you want to contend that his signing was bad, as most people will, that is the fault of the administrators. You are the ****.

They were talking about Sam Burgess how Souths signed him back after shoulder surgery so could be technical hitch with Foran if he can’t comeback from a bad shoulder injury as it’s the same one he had surgery on. We did the same with Keiran also have the scenario of Watmough was signed by Parra on one knee and they didn’t get the payout
