Surely they can’t medically retire him. He’s had shoulder injuries since 2010! A lot of clubs weren’t happy with the Inglis retirement.

I don’t understand the whole medically retired scenario. So if he is approved by the NRL he gets paid out his 1.2 mil a season but not against the cap? But if the NRL don’t approve it he still gets his money but it’s counted in the cap, is that right?
The shonky bastards are trying the excuse that it wasn't the shoulder injury itself that has forced him to retire but instead they will blame the infection in his shoulder that he supposedly got after the operation. What a load.
They will get what they want though, what with them being the pride of the league and all.....makes me want to spew.

Fuck it, I might try getting medically retired from my job tomorrow. I had a runny nose a few years ago- that seems to be a good enough excuse for the NRL. It's worth a try.

These are the three things that the NRL looks at when considering medical retirement. The NRL and clubs contribute money each year to a fund that is then used to pay players. Can't remember the exact figure but it's at least a couple mill a year.
  1. The Player, at the time of termination, was diagnosed as medically unfit to currently continue to train and play elite level contact sport and was medically unable to ever return to play elite level contact sport due to the current level of disability or the significant risk of further disabling injury as a result of playing elite level contract sport.
  2. The Player, had no similar injury or medical condition to that area of the body that either has or could reasonably be predicted medically to lead to a degenerative condition of that area of the body prior to signing his last NRL contract or if the players contract was signed more than 24 months previous within the last 24 months unless an unrelated single event has resulted in rapid deterioration of this condition.
  3. A single event that caused the injury could be identified.

Well you gotta live a bit, good on him even if he was one of those erratic crazy poms once in a while.
His brothers will be worth more.

Retiring NRL star Sam Burgess charged with intimidation following alleged domestic violence incident

Retiring NRL star Sam Burgess has been charged following an alleged domestic dispute earlier this month.

NSW Police said tonight that on October 19 they were called to a home in Glenquarry, east of Bowral, in relation to a domestic dispute between two men.

Police from the Hume Police District attended and an apprehended domestic violence order was applied for on behalf of a 63-year-old man.

The former South Sydney Rabbitohs star has been charged with intimidation.

He is expected to appear at Moss Vale Local court on December 18.

Burgess is a legit medical retirement, Inglis' was pure piss though.
From what you posted with point 2, doesn't that confirm that Souths and Burgess' claim to medically retire is complete bullshit?

If he had two surgeries on the same shoulder and has been playing with this shoulder injury all season, how can they came this infection had nothing to do with ten plus years of wear and tear caused by his previous shoulder issues?

I'm not questioning you, I just don't see how anyone could completely separate having a shoulder ruined by operations and years of impact, from a shoulder infection that just magically came out of nowhere?

I dare say he wouldn't have had the infection in his shoulder if he wasn't a footy player that has had two shoulder operations.

Wonder if the NRL will still make a big deal out his retirement and sweep under the carpet the fact if he waited 1 more day he would have been stood down under the new nrl no fault policy.

Insurance for players must be through the roof thanks to all these “medical retirements”.

So basically he gets $1m a year for the next three years for doing absolutely nothing apart from waking up in the morning.

He will most likely get a job in the media too earning another couple of hundred k on top of that.

No wonder every girl wants to bang him now.

Surely he couldn’t get a start in the media he has a head like a smashed crab and you need subtitles to understand him. Although it wouldn’t surprise me when you see some of the other former players working in media at the minute.

Remember when he threatened to sue the pants off any journo who published anything to do with him and the sexting scandal earlier this year?

Just saw today's papers and there's pics of him partying in Mexico with girls all over him a few days after he breaks up with his missus.

hrmmm, I wonder if those journos should have called his bluff and just printed the truth?

IF he was stood down would that affect his ability to be medically retired?
