"But Pay said the club was now in a far better position to capitalise, with minimal roster changes expected and their first-choice starting 17 still intact for next year."

looks like we are stuck with Chris Smith
I was never a fan of his, but he actually played some good games towards the end of the year. Still a squad player, but if we had too many stars, we wouldn't be able to give them all the game time they want. It's a balancing act of sorts.

If we can grab ourselves a decent hooker and centre, we’ll make the 8 next year.
We need another hooker, but I'm not convinced we need a centre tbh. Any prized centre we buy now will block the pathway for Harper or Averilo.....

Agree. We need to be promoting these guys a bit earlier in their careers too.

The club has been far to conservative in its approach to bringing along promising players. It has worked for us in the past but things have changed and other clubs are recognising this.

Harper (may) have really helped the team when Holland and Montoya were leaking tries. We don't know unless we use these guys to strengthen a weakness.

Roster will be more settled to start next season than it was for this year which is a plus. As stated by some already the pre season is on the coaches, from round 1 we didn't look fit which showed in the teams ability to compete in games. Coaches need to have the team ready to go round 1 , with 1 or 2 more signings I think next year we should be looking to be in the in the 8. Positions 6-8 on the ladder are absolutely up for grabs.

Yeah for sure. We should just promote Harper next year, and if he doesnt come along then we promote Averilo after him. Holland is signed for at least 1 .ore year, so he can play second fiddle.

Averillo has already got Harper covered , Haper lacks pace and Averillo has plenty of it , he is a much biggger threat

That may well be the case, but Harper is 21 and our current CC captain, and Averilo is what 19? He also hasn't even played a lot of CC. So it makes sense to go with Harper first and let Averilo play against men for another year.

Hard to convince all the negative nancies, don't bother
Where negative nancies cause where just witnessing the same old shit, and listening to the same shit, mediocre excuses from the same people over and over again.
But u and your mate there, have a differernt feel this year so we should just all jump on board to keep u happy.
Fuck your talking some bull shit lately. Get off ya mummas titt and toughen up.
Negative results will bring negative opinions. Get used to it.

I hope we're paying nice odds for a top 8 next year. It'll be worth putting something on it ;)

Averillo was outperforming Harper by a fair way in the few games he played CC. Averillo is defenitely the more attractive option imo, like mentioned previously he has far more pace and offers a bigger threat with his all round skillset just being superior.

We also have to consider what's best for him personally and the club...does the club view him as a centre or half? Would playing him in the halves in reserves be better for him and us or getting him into NRL footy asap and playing him at centre and just go from there be best?

Naturally we just go with what is best for the club. But my original point was that we dont need a centre as they will block the path of both of these guys, or one or the other.

If we can get an established centre then we jump at it imo, there will be opportunities elsewhere for players. We average 2.3 tries per game so we can't just keep waiting on players to come good at the club.

And then what? Sure we need some strike power, but in a years time these two will be that! Then we either lose them or move a player on while paying their salary again.
We are better off holding out for a year and promoting from within.

Doubt Harper will be anything more than average tbh and like I said Averillo might potentially not even play centre if the club wants to move him back to the halves. If we lose a player then we lose them, not really fussed as long as the roster is being managed and areas of concern are constantly being addressed.

I've heard from someone close to Averillo that he would consider leaving to play in the halves.

How exactly was this year a negative result??? The most realistic of supporters were probably not expecting the team to become competitive until 2021, but after this years campaign it looks as though we will be more then competitive next year. To me, this is a very positive finish to the year.

Exactly. We were tipped by many to come last
