I honestly think that its plausible to consider that Pay may actually become a good long term coach when you consider the state of affairs he has begun his transition to fg coaching in.
When Pay was offered his first contract to coach the Bulldogs he had a brand new board and CEO, a bunch of overpaid duds, way too many backended contracts, and was operating under a salary cap that turned out to be way less then the previous board had expected. These are the facts. But let's continue with the "unknowns" if you will.
After getting rid of all of the duds, and unfortunately having to let our best forward go because he was acting like a pussywipped little bitch, he then went to market to find some "cheapies" that he hoped he could mould into regular first graders. These players were relative unknowns so Pay had to have faith that they could get the job done.
Pay was also a rookie coach under immense pressure after the majority of fans had turned on Hasler. So with this in mind, and the fact he has had a very young squad at his disposal, with some overpaid backended deals, along with the pressure of expectations from us fans, it hasn't been an easy task thus far.
We are not out of the woods yet, but it does look as though he has managed to keep the players mind on the job, and keep them together as a tight knit group. Our results are starting to improve, and despite our lack of form he was able to attract players such as CHN, DWZ and Stinson who are quality players. So given this is the case, these players must be seeing a lot more then we have been able to see.
With a few more good signings, and hopefully a better start to the year next year, we could be well on our way to being able to properly utilise our war chest for 2021. And who knows, Pay might even mould us into a legitimate contender.....
Good post bro

That was CH
LOL it was all Phil Gould's advice that had DWZ packing for Belmore, not some coffee and wise words with DonkeyPay ..

Phil Gould advice was CHN not DWZ because Pay meet with. The truth is he could have signed with pretty any club this year as the Panther have paid the majority.

I 100% support Pay as our coach. Why?

1. He has shown that he is able to improve players on an individual level, particularly these:
  • DWZ: Couldn't get a start at Penrith, look at his work now... enough said
  • Meaney: Starting to really get a feel on the wing, defensively improving and no longer get dominated in kick returns/dummy half runs
  • Foran: Absolutely masterful right now, if it weren't for injuries, well worth 1 million a year and top 10 Dally M. Playing best in career... especially given the team he has and his halves partner isn't DCE.
  • JMK: Really improving in running, defense... a lot of work still needs to be done.
  • Coggger: Getting better every game, some good kicks and running game is getting sharper and more lethal.
  • Napa/CHN: No longer miss as many tackles.
  • RFM: Got demoted and came back like an absolute beast.
  • To'omanga: Naturally improving
2. He has a good recruitment plan, good players that aren't too expensive ... get a well rounded side.
  • DWZ
  • Stimson
  • Britt
  • The dragons guy
The previous year:
  • Cogger
  • Meaney
  • CHN
If we get Ese'ese, Ramien or Korosaiu, any number of the three, it just goes further to prove this point... not like what Hasler did with Williams, Foran.

3. He will definitely learn and reflect on why we failed to start 2019 strongly, after promising signs in 2018...
He will definitely fix this up.

4. Pay has great juniors at his disposal if recruitment is still lacking
The three standouts are Wakeham, Kalache, Harper.

Of course it's possible that he improves as time goes on, just a matter of opinion as to how much time is too much time. I think a key factor could be changes to the staff, for most of the time he has been here it has just been a mish mash of whoever was here and the odd guy Pay brought over. Maybe better specialised people in the right roles could make the difference.
Yeah I'd agree with that. Like the team, he probably needs a bit of time to get a feel for the people around him as far as the coaching aspect is concerned, and this possibly means changing that team as well.
Time will tell.

Yes you're right, no one knows the true reason but love or hate Pay I doubt any player comes purely to be coached by him, he's no Bellamy or Bennett.

DWZ is an absolute gentleman, he's never badmouthed Penrith and had nothing but praise for everyone he's dealt with including other coaches he spoke to. As I said in another thread I hope he captains the club.
True, he is no Bellamy or bennett, but if your boss was the best in the business, but was a total prick to work for, would you want to work there?? I think the way you manage/communicate/motivate/encourage and train players has just as much impact on the teams performance as great coaching technique or game plans. Of course, a good balance of both the ultimate goal, but so far we can tell that pay has at least one part working for him. Once we balance our cap and recruit a bit more talent, I'm hoping we will see him develop the other aspects of his coaching ability.

Cheers mate. I was happy when we signed him, and then towards the middle of this year I was very disappointed and I had lost faith, but given where we are at now, and how Pay has kept the teams spirits up, and kept them playing like it wasn't all doom and gloom, I'm back in support of him.
The only way is up!
