Wow, just wow. just saw the photo in the paper of a very smug Todd Greenberg standing beside his head referee and his boss...OOPS I mean Smith and his wife. Honestly just what sort of hold does this bloke have over the game?
If he got 150k for his testimonial, of which he gave 15k to charity (which just so happened to be what the ring cost) he finishes well in front. Plus his Waterford crystal football plus his dinner etc. etc. plus his million plus a year.....
The game owes him??? Get over it. What about the player who gives 100% every single week, who does not get all the accolades, who does not have the form of influencing the game and the officials because he can speak well? Does the game not owe him too? Greenberg says we must acknowledge those who contribute to the game...well in my opinion every player contributes because without those grunts and budget players the game is nothing.
What about James Graham and Beaver Menzies two other blokes who have played at the top level in both NRL and Super League the first one with also 400 games to his credit and the other with close to 500? Where is there acknowledgement of their contribution...oh that's right a newspaper article and a club tribute are more than enough for them.
No wonder people get the shits with the game and boo Melbourne roundly at every away venue with the type of things they get away with...this is just the icing on the cake and proves to me that the NRL believes that one man is greater than the game itself....
