Wests Tigers halfback Luke Brooks has landed himself in hot water and on report over a knee to the face of Manly forward Jack Gosiewski.

The incident occurred in the ninth minute when Gosiewski lost the ball in a heavy tackle only for Brooks’ knee to make contact with his face afterwards.

The act wasn’t missed by Sea Eagles hooker Api Koroisau who retaliated and started a brief melee in the middle of the park.

Referee Gerard Sutton had no choice but to place Brooks on report once the player settled down.

With the Tigers already without Robbie Farah (leg), Moses Mbye (hip) and Jacob Liddle (knee), the last thing they need is Brooks sidelined as they compete for a spot in the finals.

Fox League expert and former NRL playmaker Brett Finch labelled the act “stupid”.

“Back when we played you’d get squared up there as a halfback,” Finch said.

“You would not get away with putting your knee in a second-rower’s face.

“That’s rubbish … that’s just stupid from Brooks. They would’ve had the ball.”

Co-commentator Greg Alexander was surprised by Brooks’ actions.

“That’s what the no punch rule leads to. It leads to players pushing the limit in that sort of fashion,” he said.

“It’s not something you expect from Luke Brooks. It’s a surprise to see him do something like that.”

Aye. There would be so much less grubby play if the no punch rule didn't exist, as if Brooks would do this if he knew Tapau or AFB could come by and absolutely smash him.

Definitely, it's foul play. I know it was a little different but years ago Morley got sent off for kneeing Corey Hughes. At the end of the day it's a grub act by Brooks and he should get suspended.

Couldn't agree more with both of you. The Nrlol think guys throwing punches is a bad look but instances like what Brooks did, and guys like McGuire and co is worse in my opinion. You do a grub act you deserve a punch on the chin.

Even in the article they mentioned it.

Yh there's a difference between smashing some bloke because he accidentally hit you high or gave you some lip compared to smashing a bloke because he dropped his knees into you, gouged your eyes or is just being a massive ****.

Totally mate. I'm sure the grub players would think twice about doing foul acts if they knew the chances of getting punched in the face were higher then they are now.

And not just this but all the annoying niggle, pushing around and slapping that occurs because no one can throw a punch.
If they just let them slug it out for a minute then this ongoing crap wouldn't last the whole game.

No one is intimidated these days because of it so they do what they like knowing nothing will happen, unlike back in the old days.

The current NRL have so much wrong with it right now. The whole game is out of whack and run by people not vested in the game.
Too true brother and unfortunately it starts from the juniors up

There binning defenders for even tackling or touching halfbacks in recent weeks.
Yet 2 halfbacks have lashed out with grubby knees this season cause there so protected.
Ive stopped watching the footy, first time in my life. Only bulldogs games from now on the nrl has lost me completely.
