July 3, 2019 — 1.17pm

Former star rugby league player Jarryd Hayne has been committed to stand trial, accused of rape.

The 31-year-old faces two counts of aggravated sexual assault against a woman in the NSW Hunter Valley in 2018.

Hayne has not yet formally pleaded but his lawyer has indicated he denies the charges.

Hayne was charged in November after a 26-year-old woman told police the pair met on social media and then in person in Newcastle in September 2018.

Hayne is due to be arraigned in the NSW District Court on July 25.

Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday was told a trial is not expected "much earlier" than September 2020.

Magistrate Robert Stone granted Hayne a bail variation to allow him to live in Perth temporarily to attend a residential education course.

Two recent letters from Christian evangelism group Youth With A Mission were tendered.

Prosecutor Hamish Fitzhardinge had argued against the move, citing the risk to community safety.

Done and dusted! Idiot was always a meat head. Hopefully for his sake though, he gets his life back on track and does something good!

I don’t know Aus laws, is it possible he could do jail time? If so how much?

Also he could just get a slap on the wrist?

If he goes inside he’ll get a good handle on the difference between rape and consensual sex lol
Lol, well that is correct, just makes you wonder if he will actually get time.. you would think it doesn’t look good for him.!!

What a fucking idiot.
He will be lucky if he just ends up bankrupt and living in a one bedroom flat in Liverpool.

I'm still wondering what the hells happening with the US case. This one is the alleged sexual assault and alleged biting incident.

He got the OK but has to be arrainged July 25th this year, and will go to trial around Sep 2020 they reckon.

He won't get jail time. Prob a good behavior or something, but his career is definitely over.

It's a shame both he and De Bellin will probably never see actual jail time because the inmates sure would love to run a train on some pretty fresh meat like them.

The last two lines are interesting, so what are in the two letters? Character reference I would say. But what does the last line mean, "Prosecutor Hamish Fitzhardinge had argued against the move, citing the risk to community safety". Who is the risk to community safety?

Hayne's form in the second half of 2009 was pretty much as good as I have ever watched anyone play and he had the potential IMO to be the best modern fullback... athletic, very fast, evasive, size etc. with ball playing abilities, a kicking game... I always thought it was a pity he wasted away his best years at a shambolic club like Parramatta and his US/NFL adventure

but if convicted, that will be the first thing people remember, associate with his name

I saw that flog James "the fuckwitt" Hooper say Hayne would the GREATEST athlete Australia ever produced, at the height of Haynes NFL hype.

There was always a lot of hype with the Hayne, but yes he did have a great 2009 season.

He had one stand out year out of how many seasons? For all the "hype" overall he was more a failure at the end of the day. Now he is just plain fucked!
