Given the way I'm hearing our club are treating prospective signings, except the Turbos to super speedy run far far away.

Circa a million dollars per year and Captain tag for Jake would make Belmore look like Paradise

End of the day these boys career is 8 years if lucky on average

Money talks

We will have a war chest
true true, but players of this calibre, the darlings in the media and NRL, will be looked after in many ways after their career, unlike middle rung or unknown career footballers... their echelon of player knows that life after footy is still gonna be pretty good whether they take a million at the dogs or 800 at manly etc...

Smith
Okunbor
Meaney
Cogger
Lewis
Foran
To’omaga
Ogden
Harper
players at melbourne improve not just bc of bellamy, but because of what they learn on the field in real time/scenarios from the likes of smith, slater etc... like you would under cronk or back in the day under lockyer, johns etc... coach is no more than 50pc of it...

btw people talking about us having this amazing war chest... 2 things... a) it will run down pretty quickly as we need to pay overs on every signing and b) regardless of war chest, we will still be up against the usual clubs, easts, souths, broncs etc who can seem to attract all of the best players with minimal interference from the nrl

If they sign one of the brothers i will be amazed...

Can you imagine the shit Hasler would be spinning to them about coming to Belmore?
DES - OMG please dont go, it horrible down there... they will pay youse 3 times your salary to play footy plus if you factor in the tolls it will be an expensive trip every week

Lets face it...We will be paying overs for any player we approach regardless, Unless we sign a coach that would be a magnet !!!
We need to build the SPINE 1 , 6, 7, 9.
We need a prop and possibly a center.
Some overpaid players will have to take pay cuts
We will have to sacrifice some players in order to achieve a well balanced team !
Then...and only then we can afford everyone we need !!!
So basically, we need to buy an entire footy side!

Hopefully we pick up quality youngsters who see a clearer pathway into the NRL alongside of the marquee players we get. That can offset the cost of the marquee players. Next year will be a year when anyone not performing can be released. We won't have to pay every recruit massive money. There's plenty of people with ability stuck behind established talent. Our recruitment staff just need to be on their game to make good use of the available cap space. I don't see it as a doom and gloom situation.

I look at the recruitment drive Newcastle went on and think we are potentially going to chase a couple of guys like Ponga (potential stars who haven't had a breakout season), one or two marquee players (the likes of a Klemmer and Pearce) and a bunch of guys that perform well when they come into the NRL from rosters that are packed with too much talent. Teams like Melbourne, South's, Cronulla and the Roosters tend to lose good players because they don't get too many promotion opportunities. We need to be in touch with every player manager asking who is frustrated with being stuck behind established talent.

Not every signing we make is going to be an established talent. We just need to be very astute in whoever we sign.

We struggle to keep retired brothers within the club, let alone those still playing!

We couldn’t even jag the Mautautia brothers and we think we getting Turbos ‍♂
Thankfully we didn't! That would have been another Des masterstroke. What a joke it was that Sione played on the wing for Australia before he'd played ten FG games. It probably ruined his career.

That was a close one. None of them are playing FG right now..

It’s just a fucking merry go round, we need some stability and fast, maybe then we will stop being the joke of the nrl and be a force again..!!!

We are linked to anyone an everyone, yet we get no one (most of the time) we are always looking to sack someone an move on, because the performance of team/board/coach is not up to par.!! need to get some proper systems in place that WORK, then can actually build on that moving forward!!!

I'd say we are a very small chance. The manager is just using us to bump up the price.

And we're facing the king of back loaded contracts. DCE is coming close to the end of his contract and 30 years old, Hasler will just pay the turbos more in the later years of their contracts.
I thought NRL stated that they won"t register back ended or ratchet type contracts.....

Couldnt agree more. Our once great club has now become a joke and the media loves all the rumours and shit. Move forward and make the club stronger.

Nothing but politics that selection. Alex Johnston deserved the jersey that season, yet Aussie selectors were hoarding the talent and poached Sione off Samoa 'just incase'

Manly have revved up an audacious plan to lock down NSW Origin brothers Tom and Jake Trbojevic to a $10 million package deal.

Less than 48 hours before the Origin decider, The Daily Telegraph can reveal the Eagles are in talks to re-sign their Blues brothers before rival clubs have a chance to poach them from November 1.

Insiders suggest Tom would be worth a little more than $1 million a season, while Jake would attract a touch under $1 million a year.

It is understood Manly are discussing four or five-year deals for both.
[https://cdn]You’d have to say these two are worth the money.
The local juniors are off contract after next season but are on the open mark from November 1 and Manly are desperate to lock them up before cashed-up rival clubs start to circle.

The Daily Telegraph understands Manly coach Des Hasler, who Tom and Jake respect enormously, is driving the negotiations with SFX Sports Group, which manages all three.

Manly co-owner and chairman Scott Penn has spoken of his desire to make the local juniors “one-club players”.

“They are an integral part of the club,” Penn said from New York, where he spends half the year on business.
“They are Manly juniors and we would love them to be one-club players.
“We will not be playing our strategy out in public but rest assured they will be treated with the respect they deserve.”

Jake and Tom enjoyed a weekend with family and friends on Sydney’s northern beaches before arriving back in NSW camp at Sydney Olympic Park on Sunday night.

Jake was man of the match in NSW’s series-levelling win against Queensland in Perth, while Tom scored three tries.
The Trbojevics have said they would accept less money to stay at Manly but the Sea Eagles know the brothers could be lured away by massive offers.

One source close to the negotiations said: “They would only leave if a club paid way overs.
“If say a Parramatta or Canterbury offered $1.4 million a year for either, it would be difficult to say no.
“They don’t want to go anywhere but money talks. They are two players you could build a team around. A club like Canterbury would be desperate to sign them.”
There are also suggestions the pair may have to play for different clubs to maximise their earning capacity.
“You’ve got to look at everything, I guess, but we love playing together, so ideally you want to stay together,” Jake told Fox Sports.

“You never know what happens in footy. The Stewart brothers (Glenn and Brett), you wouldn’t have thought they would have to separate, but it’s the nature of the game with the salary cap and so on.
“Hopefully it doesn’t come to that. I’d love to stay there (at Manly). But we’ve got another year and a half, so I haven’t even thought about it really.”
