Maybe I'm the only person who is game enough to post that I don't think so.

I admit that even I have had a couple of head scratcher selections, but I've never been close to being "mind boggled". Plus when I did a little research I have found a number of reasons, aside from form on the field, that justifiably contribute to players being dropped and/or not promoted. An example, if a player blows off their specialist coach enough times such that he refuses to coach them any more should that player be picked to play? My view is fark no, there has to be team discipline maintained (let him get away with that shit and the others will think they can to). Others on TK will say it's irrelevant, players should only ever be picked based on what they do on the field. Hence what is perfectly justified to me is mind boggling to them.

As far as bench rotations go, someone posted that Pay was a total idiot for rotating a prop at ~70 minutes and I pointed out that Bellamy and Bennett had in fact done exactly the same in the same round. So why was Pay's rotation singled out as being idiotic and 2 of the oft called "best coaches in the NRL" weren't similarly scoffed at. Many on TK are desperate to justify their opinions and search out anything that confirms that already reached opinion. Me, I'm a facts first decision maker.

Still waiting for the evidence of the disciplinary issues you've talking so much.

What evidence would you like?

It would be much easier if you verified it yourself, it's pretty simple, just start up a conversation with a player, any player, talk about team moral and self discipline in a fast paced environment. I usually talk about how I'd like progress with that for my team (work team, not sports team). Then move on to codes of conduct and their implementation. Then ask about the team's self enforcing, see where that conversation leads you. With most of the guys it's a source of pride that they have their own self policing code of conduct so they talk about it pretty freely. A good place to start your understanding is the NRL Code of Conduct https://www.nrl.com/community/inclusion/rights-and-responsibilities/codes-and-policies/

It’s interesting listening to Brett Finch talk about the storm culture about the constant every week ‘lifting the bar’ senior group grading players on efforts etc. Matt Johns then brought up Warren Ryan telling players to ‘re start’ (comparing with painting the harbour bridge being a long repetitive task. I believe we need to be harder in performance and yes Pay can say a young inexperienced side but there needs to be more ‘hard marking’ to push more effort

Sounds good, but when Pay “hard marks” their favoured player TK goes into melt down.

I'm guessing the reply would be something like this:

"thanks for the message mate, but I choose players based on my criteria, toughness. I don't care if they standout in reserves, they need to be from the country and to be as tough as I am as well as think like I do, which is not at all. They need to have zero attacking flair and display my defensive madness or else they aren't a true BuLldOg"

Sincerely,

Derp pay
You forgot to add “ the players I pick bring back the madness”

I like to look at f/a as a good indicator, we finished 2018 with -46, we are currently -160. tells me we have gone backwards both sides of the ball.

Ya, I'm not going to keep going round in circles.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, you just seem to be the only one with yours.
Per the post above, you only have to look at our for and against to see a true reflection of team effort and results.

With the reduced number of stoppages this year, drastically reduced number of penalties and increase time the ball is in play it doesn't surprise me that the margins in games have widened. For example last year the team leading the comp on 26 points had a F&A differential of 137 points where as this year the team leading the comp on 26 points has a F&A differential of 190 points. Same number of games won and lost but close to a 40% increase in the margins.

Problem is what quality coaches are available? Thinking outside the box I would target Cooper Cronk as an assistant coach for next year. He has had 10 years under Bellamy and just listening to him analyse the game, he has an amazing insight and knowledge of the game and is a great communicator. He has all the attributes to be an outstanding coach. Get him in next year to work with Pay or if we go for an interim coach like Griffen (who is available) , either way get Cronk on board with a view for him to be our head coach within the next couple of years
I very much doubt cooper will go down the coaching path, and sure as hell he wouldn't be doing it for us if he did. It would only be in a halves coach capacity, and only for the roosters or storm. Just my opinion.....

Cronk is going to Harvard to study, part of his salary package. Since he moved to Sydney to be with his wife I doubt that he will be going back to Melbourne.

Just because he doesnt live there, doesn't mean he couldn't spend a few days a week coaching there.
In any case, I dont think he will go into coaching. Certainly not straight away. He has his media commitments, and as you say, uni.

Which would have had to have been declared in his contract. So I’m guessing you were privy to that.

To be fair to TT here mate, Cronk studying at Harvard is pretty well known, I think a few reporters have mentioned it also...

No qualms with Cronk being just an assistant or halves coach.

Save your money this year and bet on wooden spoon in 2020 if Pay and the usual suspects remain. Should get $1.01 return on $1.00 bet.
