Today is the 1st of July and it's the beginning of the new financial year.

The rumours and innuendo are over.

No Bevan fucken French along with the other 100's of players which were coming across;
Ramien, Alex Glenn, Ese ese, Dean Britt, Lafai, Lomax, Aitken and so on
Ok.

Looking at how well Drinkwater played in his first game for Nth Qld is disappointing considering we nearly signed him last season and he was available.

To release numerous players and only sign DWZ is also frustrating. Almost every other club was more active than ours leading up to June 30. To only have announced Stimson for next year is worrying considering how weak the squad is.

Hopefully more signings are announced for next year soon otherwise 2020 will be another season where we battle for the spoon.

Stimson is literally the only player that has signed for a new club for next year in the entire NRL. So player movement for next year hasn’t really even started yet. There’s plenty of water to go under the bridge between now and November.

Kyle Flanagan is another one.

Pretty sure not much can be done until after November 1?

Was that article about re-signing Lichaa by Crawley true or just a gee up? Anyone know

Flanagan is even still a rumour at this stage.

Nothing really changes for next year after last night it just means the squad for this year won’t change now.

Can we not still sign players from the UK?
I thought June 30 was just for NRL contracted players?

FFS, seriously, I think everyone, even the negative nellies, can see that signing DWZ was a master stroke in itself, but to secure an instantaneous release and have him playing a week later, was something we definitely needed and to date has been demonstrably well worth it. A real credit to everyone involved, despite what some will claim that it just "fell into our hands". Not quite so immediate, but signing Stimson for next season to replace 2 duds that are off contract was also a scoop for us.

We still have 6 spots to fill with players off contract next year, and we are poised ready to strike when the right player/s become available. Plus there is plenty of behind the scenes activity going on around signing up players for next year, looking not just at those off contract but those were we might be able to secure an early release. Then come November we can start locking in who we want for 2021 with 20+ spots and $8+m to spend. Personally I like the direction we are heading in, I can see progress and hope for the future.

If you are seriously trying to compare Drinkwater with DWZ, you are in dreamland. The last thing we needed was a young, inexperienced and unproven fullback, we already have one of those. Of the 2 DWZ was by far the superior choice for us right now and for next season. Speaking of Meaney many bitch and moan about him being a lightweight and Drinkwater is 6 cm shorter and 3 kgs lighter.

True. Hopefully more will be announced soon. I've been informed we're signing some decent young talent. Hopefully that's true and we see more signings announced soon.

Here we go.... This coming from the guy who thinks Bellamy can't coach but Pay can... Drinkwater showed far more in one game with Melbourne and one with the Cowboys than Meaney has in his whole career.

I never complained about signing DWZ. He's a good signing but should ultimately be wing or centre as someone like Drinkwater has far more vision and skills to set up tries from fullback in ways DWZ can't. Dallin should be fullback short term, but long term he needs to add some passing to his game or they need to recruit a fullback who offers more in that regard..
