BULLDOGS RELEASE RHYSE MARTIN TO TAKE UP SUPER LEAGUE OFFER

The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs have agreed to release back-rower Rhyse Martin to take up an offer to play in Super League.

Martin was offered a contract extension by the Bulldogs, but declined and has asked for an immediate release to take up a longer, two and a half year deal in England.

26 year-old Martin made his NRL debut for the Bulldogs last season against the Brisbane Broncos and made a total of 25 NRL appearances for the club.

Bulldogs Chief Executive Andrew Hill was understanding of Martin's desire to move to England.

"Rhyse is an excellent young man and when he came seeking a release from his contract yesterday to take up a longer deal in Super League we decided not to stand in his way. We had previously offered Rhyse a contract extension, but he felt that moving to Super League was the right decision for himself and his career and as such we have agreed to allow him to leave before the July deadline."

*As a result of the change James Roumanos has now been added to the Bulldogs Top 30 from the club's Development Players list, while Connelly Leumelu takes his place on that list.

James Roumanos takes up a top 30 spot and Connelly Lemuelu takes his spot as a development player. Why not promote a player that could actually benefit us instead of a kid struggling with NSW Cup?

What did we offer him another one year extension. Why even mention that, just wish the guy well and be done with it.

How does this help us strategically? Happy for Rhyse but plugging the extra spot with a dev player and bumping another young one into his spot doesn’t do much for the rebuild.
Would they have us believe that they didn’t know this was coming and were caught out at the deadline?

Roumanos isn't even a good old country boy, something's up.

We're stacked on back towers who are at about the same level. I didn't mind Martin as a player, but this isn't the end of the world. Good luck Rhyse.

We bend over to any players demands would of been ok if we lined up a big name replacement

Because they know that the fans won't be happy and they want everyone to think it's Martin's and not the club's fault.

Not unhappy he has been very average this season.

Is it possible that we only release him if he wasn't going to sign with another NRL club? I don't get the superleague thing.

Last time we did this, release a player, we signed DWZ, so I wonder who is on the radar or already signed and will be announced tomorrow (we have until midnight to sign 'em up)

I don’t know much about Roumanous but it’s a bit of a buzzkill

Apparently we are signing a forward from England: They think Merrin or Thompson?

So you’re not happy that we haven’t lined up a big name replacement in exchange for Martin who’s at the lower end of earners on our books?
