Pay is an absolute moron and the people running this club are bigger dick heads for giving Pay a contract extension.. what more needs to be said
Talking about dickheads, listen to this story.

Once upon a time there was this fat fuck who went by the name of Raymond Dib.

Raymond was the Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs chairman.

In 2017, a few rounds into the comp after a 36-0 drubbing from Manly, Raymond Dib the fat fucker decided to re-sign the Canterbury Bulldogs coach Des Hasler, for a further 2 years at a rate of $1.2m per year.

At the conclusion of the 2017 NRL season, the fat fuck Raymond Dib decided to sack Des Hasler, and brought in an unproven rookie coach by the name of Dean Pay, who had "Bulldogs DNA"

In May 2017, the fat fuck Raymond Dib teamed up with his habibi cronies and forced Raelene Castle to stand down under her "own accord"

The ousting of Castle and Hasler which was all orchestrated by the fat fuck Raymond Dib, along with hiring ex-dogs player Dean Pay to coach the Dogs, Raymond was adamant he would not be ousted at the following year elections.

In 2018, the Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs were forced to pay out Des Hasler in excess of $2m dollars. The damage the club and fans inherited due to the negligence and incompetence of the fat fuck Raymond Dibs shenanigans has been on show over the last couple of years.

Good riddance to a true dickhead

I don’t think Pay is the clubs “end game”. Remember, he was hired by the previous administration. He’s the coach because no one else would be stupid or desperate enough. A caretaker, if you will.
It’s extremely unlikely he’ll be our coach past next year.

Be interesting to see salary caps follow coaches so fuckers like Des can't continue to screw over the game for personal glory.
As for Mr Dib, I'm surprised he didn't have to answer to a professional misconduct query!

There was also a trigger point in late 2017 regarding the back ended value of contracts when added up for 2018 and then compared with the total salary cap. It was described to me at the time as an OH SHIT moment for the Board.

What I dont get is how it got to the end of 2017 before they realised they had a massive problem.
Yes, the salary cap increase was not as high as they had expected, however, any kid with a calculator could add the values of each player's 2018 contract well in advance and realised that there was an issue.

A $400k increase in the salary cap doesn't fix a $3m problem, that was one very flimsy smoke screen. The previous Board and Coach were looking at moving players on before their contracts hit the high back end, but unsurprisingly no one wanted them at those inflated values and/or wanted us to pay some of the their freight. Back ended contracts are all very well until the player isn't delivering and/or if a major cost player/s gets injured. The same thing happened at Manly with (their huge back ended contract players like) DCE not delivering plus Stewart and Matai getting career ending injuries and then the NRL wouldn't give them cap relief. Bang went their back ended strategy. Draw the comparisons with us, with the back ended contract players Woods, Mbye and Lichaa not delivering. To me back ended contracts are a huge gamble, sometimes it works but more often it doesn't because there is a lot of crystal ball gazing involved, and they are notoriously unreliable.

At least most people can agree that the old board left us with a salary cap crisis even if they don't approve of the way our current board is trying to recover from it. The new board inherited the mess when the bulk of player movement had been done and other clubs had already tied up a lot of the promising youth stuck behind established talent. Cogger and Meaney are good recruitment results given the timing that the new board took over. DWZ and Napa are also good examples of making the best of a bad situation.

If the old board hadn't tried saving their jobs by caving in to the screaming mass of Bulldogs fans we made have opted for a proven coach and recruiting 3-5 quality players without big reputations instead of splashing big money on Foran and Woods and an unproven former player who hadn't been given a chance elsewhere after many years.

I'm not going to praise or criticize Pay. He's inherited a roster that's not packed with talent. And he's been indecisive with his selections. But his results will decide his coaching future. Even if we finish the season strongly, he's left on shaky ground.

I know and agree, but this doesn't change the fact that the coach and the board did nothing to arrest the ticking time bomb that was right in front of their faces.
They had opportunities to steer us away from that carnage but chose not to.

In Des they trusted.
