Meaney is fine and I heard Big Papi is expected back earlier then they thought. So there is little bit of positive news.
Oh that’s great then.

Really enjoy seeing meany in the 1... he just needs to inject himself more in attack and he could be our next patten.

We are missing big papi up the guts for sure. And I can’t believe I’m saying this but I look forward to foran being back also. These kids need some experience on the field

He copped some sh!t passes against Souths, can’t hold that against the young bloke. Thought he did some tough carries coming out our own half that warrants acknowledgement.

What cracks me up is no one said sh!t against the storm when he steamrolled Cameron Smith twice and ran for 200m+ and all of a sudden, he’s the issue? Seriously, reality is, we are still building and these guys need experience.

I was at the game and saw some obvious problems:
Holland ball hogs.
Lichaa’s service and game awareness was poor.
We reverted to a lot of one out footy inside attacking zones.

What happened to the expansive style we utilised against Wests Tigers and Storm?? Vanished.
There’s a saying in life, your only as good as your last pay.

I know he’s raw, and hasn’t always played on the wing, but twice yesterday when he had a little space, he had the ball under the wrong arm and therefore had no fend. Any chance someone in our coaching staff could explain winger play 101 to him “carry ball on opposite side to defender and use hand to fend off”
Insane. To think someone would have to coach this to a first grader in the NRL.

Well pay has to look at it and get his catch and pass up to scratch, this bloke is supposed to be fast but is too scared to run around his opponent, it should be one of our strengths.

Rectified the mistakes with a try and lead up for Jj try

3 offloads
150m
3 line breaks

Still a kid the catching can be sorted through practice

Bigger picture outweighs the short term ( he’s played 5 games)

his meterage coming out of our end is invaluable, dont underestimate how much it helps our team.. yes his handling is very bad .. but hopefully its just a confidence thing ..

Totally agree! But far out it’s so frustrating

The alternatives are horrible so Okunbur has to learn on the fly in FG. Unfortunately he can't get a spell in reserves to work on shit because we have zero depth.

He does some things really well, especially getting yardage but his defensive awareness scares the shit out of me...

Even with the try from the Morgan kick, he was so out of position and had his back turned to the ball. Even after being caught out, he still could have made a play on the ball to try and relocate and deflect it out or something but he just gets caught in the worst positions!

Improving ball security will come over time, that doesn't worry me. But defensive positioning takes longer and he needs a lot of help in that regard.

Cogger tackles
R4 - 24/27
R5 - 23/27
R6 - 11/14
R7 - 14/16
Total = 72/84 (12 missed)

Lewis tackles
R4 - 14/16
R5 - 26/28
R6 - 26/30
R7 - 23/24
Total = 89/98 (9 missed)

More traffic is being directed at Lewis and our left edge, despite Lachlan being known as a good defender and Cogger being painted as a bad defender. I wonder why that is... seems to me after the first 2 games coaches are targeting Okunbur because they know he's a liability.

He has poor instincts in attacking situations as well. For example, he should never have been so flat so as to risk a forward pass from Holland. Generally, he just doesn't seem in sync with his inside men.

Great athlete but needs to smarten up fast.

True. Although that wasn't a forward pass, Okunbur had no reason to push up so tight in support and should have held back more.

Still, being a rookie winger is extremely tough as you get so targeted. Especially for someone like him who is still learning the position..

He does seem to lack concentration in attack and defense which is a worry. Hopefully once he gets more settled and less nervous then he'll focus on the little things more. I just hope the coaches are working with him on these things because he certainly has the physical attributes you'd want in a winger!

Agree

1. Not forward in a million years

2. How many balls did he catch from bad passes on his boots ( one from Holland coming out of trouble, another from Lewis which he caught and made a break for JJ to score)

That try he scored
If it was Crichton the ball sails to row z

Montoya he goes into touch

Okunbor height ensures it chest high and he does well to ground it

The most frustrating thing is that when the kick for the cowboys first try went up, he lost vision of the ball and didn’t even bother being fixated on where the attacker was. Just kinda lumbered back like a headless chook

He is fucking horrible and useless.

To those who say ww have no one better .Give yourselves an uppercut. Pretty much any winger we have will be more sufficient than this useless blob.

He is 22 and not 12 so to say we should be patient is bullshit. If you can't catch or pass by the age of 12 then go play soccer or go knit a jumper

Even on their best days Crichton and or Montoya don’t score a try make 4 line breaks and 150m or 3 offload

They sure as hell let in a try or two though

5 games in and people lynching him give me a break

Yeah it's crazy. He can catch the hard ones but drops it cold sometimes with no one around him. Obviously his hands aren't horrible but his concentration is obviously letting him down with other mistakes.

Either way, he has potential and we've seen the good he can do, hopefully he can start improving on the bad....
