The Bulldogs are set to chase the man rated as the best forward in England: Luke Thompson.

Desperate for more muscle up front, the Bulldogs have targeted Thompson, who at just 23 has already racked up more than 130 games for St Helens and four Tests for England.

The young giant was the star of Great Britain’s Test series win over the Kiwis late last year and has a big future in the game.

But he won’t be easy to lure down under - St Helens are trying to extend his deal and several big-spending English clubs also have their eyes on him.

If they do get him, though, he will give Dean Pay’s pack a massive boost in coming years.

Thompson looks the goods and I'm just glad the club is finally targeting English players.

Bateman has been brilliant for Canberra and Sutton has been solid also. If Thompson adapts as quickly as either of those two have then it would be a great signing for the club.

The last forward we signed from St. Helens ended up working out pretty well...
